Woke up early this morning and moved, had excrutiating pain in my neck. Now it is very sore, can't turn it but a couple of degrees either way....feels really tense down into my shoulders as well. Hurts to look up or down, all I can do is stare straight ahead and if I have to turn to face someone who is speaking to me, I have to turn my whole self.

What will make this go away pronto? Don't think it will be much fun waiting table tonight in this condition.

Muscle relaxers, pain meds, and rest for pronto relief. Go back to bed with hot tea, light breakfast and a good movie.
;) ;) ;)

I don't think you can totally make it go away. It will probably be better tomorrow. But the best thing to do is to get some muscle rub and rub it all over the sore areas (or have someone help you). It will help a great deal. I hope you feel better! Stiff necks are such a pain!

Oh yeah, and take some type of anti inflammatory (aleve, advil, motrin) and a muscle relaxer if you have one and can handle it. For me, they knock me out, but if you are home take one, it will help.

Put ice on it! People usually want a heating pad, but ice works much better!
Don't take a muscle relaxer if you have to go to work. Advil works pretty good. I've had chronic stiff necks and find ice blocks the pain. Try crushed ice in a bag for 20 minutes at a time. Good luck!

A chiroprator that I used to go to had the only remedy that ever worked for me.

Get in the shower with a towel. Turn the water up as hot as you can stand it. Place the towel over the part of your neck that is stiff and the surrounding area. Direct the spray of the water onto the towel and remain there for about 10 minutes.

You will find that when you get out, you have a lot of the mobility back. Motrin/Advil/Ibuprofen will also help.

Hope you feel better! :sunny:

That sounds like a good suggestion.....but I don't think the boss would like it very much...... :rotfl: If it doesn't get better before I leave here to go to my other job (waiting tables) I think I might need to call out from there.

Thanks everyone for your tips and well wishes. I have never had whip lash but if it feels anything like this....please no one ever rear end me.

Ah yes...the batman move!

I've never had a stiff or sore neck go away "pronto"...but to nurse my pain I LOVE Icy/Hot! (or cold/hot from Target! heheh). Sometimes hot feels good...sometimes Ice does...i'm weird like that.
