I am from Hawaii, where would I find "sticky" white rice at the parks/resorts/downtown disney?

I am not sure it's sticky enough, but the Fortune Cookery in DCA has some. Keep in mind it come with some sort of meat usually.

The only places that I have found that have "sticky rice" is Mimi's. The rice at Mimi's is pretty good, but not as good as home.

Thanks DisneyHawaii!

My husband is a rice type of person. One important reason for us to stay offsite!

Did you visit the Gardenwalk area? There are several restaurants with local flair!

There is also a strip mall type of restaurants across of the Candy Cane Inn that has a "Panda's" type of restaurant that we hope to find some rice!

Yep, the rice at the Asian place in DCA is pretty sticky. Though I did get a batch that wasn't *quite* cooked all the way (or had been in the cooker way too long).

The character breakfast at PPH *used to* have a rice cooker, when it was the Lilo and Stitch breakfast. DH and DS loved it!!! (DH is half Korean, DS is a quarter, and they both do love their rice)) It's now a Mickey breakfast, though it still has a surf theme which might translate to Hawaii, and it does still have Stitch...so maybe they still have that rice cooker sitting out at the buffet. :)

Just under 3 miles away there is a L&L on Ball St. Closest thing you get to home!

Address: 2219 Ball Rd. Anaheim, CA 92804

Hi :yay: I'm from Hawaii, too! I've never been able to find anywhere in the Disney resort that makes rice like we're used to eating. There's a ton of places in the little Korean district towards the Knott's Berry Farm area, though.

Long's sell three packs of microwave rice (assuming your hotel has a microwave.) With a little furikake, they taste really good!

Thought I was the only younger (under 30, or at least I assume you are) Disney freak in Hawaii, guess it is a small world after all...LOL

Mamaso:
Totally forgot about the Garden Walk...We have been, but only eaten at the Cheesecake factory. I know we have one back home, but the lines are always so ridiculous. I definitely want to try Fire & Ice on our upcoming Destination-D trip in September. I know they opened a Roy's at the Garden Walk, but just like here it is not very economical if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the tips! Microwave rice! Never thought about that! I need to check it out!!!

You are making me hungry!!!

For me, I am from the Big Island, so the "chain" restaurants are limited! I have Fire & Ice on my list as well.

When are you planning on visiting in September? We are there the first week! :)

We will be there from September 20-26. We are going for the D23 Destination-D and Scavenger Hunt Events. In the past I was able to go 2-3 times a year, but the last time we went to Disneyland was for the Haunted Mansion 40th Anniversary and D23 Expo last September.

I've never gone looking for it, but here's another option:

One time when I was in DLR, I was on an extremely low-fat diet. We went to the Storyteller's Cafe for dinner and I asked about low-fat options.

The chef came out to the table and we decided on dinner. It included sticky rice, which was fantastic.

So, there ya go. It's not on the menu (to my knowledge) but they can certainly make it well!

Have fun!

We are from Hawaii too!! I read your post and DH said "in your rice cooker in your hotel room, right next to the can of spam" :) Typical local, gotta bring da rice cooka :)

Anyhow, I don't recall anywhere with decent rice when we were there last summer. But we sure did eat ALOT of delish mexican food, that's all we ate in Ca. mexican or in'n out.

Have fun!! and good luck on your food finds...

I was just looking for info about rice in the parks and found this thread. My wife is Filipino and would be happy eating rice with every meal. I have in the past gotten her a side of rice from the Lucky Fortune Cookery to go with her turkey leg from Paradise Pier!

I don't understand why more places don't offer at least plain steamed rice inside the parks. You would think with so many international visitors, it would be very successful. Plus, it is cheap and easy to make. Anyone know where I could make that suggestion?

:woohoo: Rice & a turkey leg!!! Sound like a meal to me!!!!

I don't remember whether the rice was there, but they took away the teriyaki salmon they used to have at the Lilo and Stitch breakfast (and it was my favorite part of that buffet!)

With a little furikake, they taste really good!

May I ask--what is furikake? I love experimenting with new foods--how do you 'cook' it? BTW, I have a Corgi too--she's 18 months old and her name is Bella (do they ever calm down?)
