I don't post too much any more but I feel I have to give a shout out to National after our last rental experience.
We are EA members and we get a good discount code through my husband's job so we usually do book with National for the best price. We take numerous WDW trips, plus we've driven the state of CA, all without issue.
We just took a 10 day southwest road trip, starting in Las Vegas, ending up in Phoenix, with what seemed like a million destinations in between. I booked with National (actually started out with a Costco reservation, but cancelled when National went lower). In the end I ended up with a 10 day minivan rental for $491 which I didn't think was too bad. I could have booked EA for about a $100 less but with three kids needed the guarantee of a minivan or SUV.
About day 8 into the trip we were calculating mileage. We had picked up the minivan with under 700 miles on it. We were already nearing 2000. My husband turned to me and said "Thank goodness it's unlimited mileage."
I immediately felt something in the pit of my stomach. I couldn't't remember if I had actually checked if it was unlimited. I mean, it must be right? We always have unlimited mileage. Every WDW trip, the 1500 miles we drove in CA, always unlimited. I didn't say anything and quietly dug through my paperwork in the front seat. There it was...miles NOT included. None. Thirty-two cents a mile. Every single one.
To my husband's credit, he didn't drive off the road when I told him. What could we do? We decided to just go with the flow and see what happened.
When we turned in the car we had put 1,645 miles on it. At .32 a mile that equals $526.40. Ouch. We dropped off the car and DH went up to the service desk. He wasn't angry, no attitude. But he said we rented the car in Las Vegas, dropping off in Phoenix, we assumed it was unlimited mileage, admittedly not reading the agreement closely. The man at the counter said no problem, they usually do that with one-way rentals and then he waived the fee. We could not believe it. There was no going back and forth, no calling a supervisor (I mean, it was our mistake...make that mine!), but they were incredibly accommodating. That totally made a good end to our trip.
So I just wanted to share our experience with National and the fantastic customer service they showed us. Usually we read about complaints on the boards so I wanted to share something positive.
