Does anyone else get sticker shock when pricing Disney hotel packages? I don't know what I'm expecting every time I do it, but I'm always shocked at how expensive they come back...

Doesn't matter where I try and book it, Dreams Unlimited or direct through Disney. I can't remember if I've tried any where else, where does everyone else book through?

Only for Disneyland. I find the WDW hotel prices to be quite reasonable. Pricing a stay in Oz for a family of five - now that's horrific!

Yep that's me I am struggling to hand over $2000 for 3 nights for 4 people at DLP, I'm actually considering scrapping that part of the trip which would be incredibly sad, I think that Disney's prices are getting out of control

Have you considered renting DVC points? I felt like I got some absolute bargains on my trip last year.

I bought the tickets separately through Undercover tourist.

Disneyland tix seem so much more expensive than WDW tickets, don't they?

Tell me about it!

My 10 day Park Hopper + Waterparks and More ticket worked out at only about $37 per day for the 11 days we used it.

This day at Disneyland is costing almost $100 more.

Not that you can compare a 10 day pass to a 1 day one, but it does make me all too aware of the cost of Disneyland.

I keep holding off buying my family's tickets because it just seems so darn expensive.

It just doesn't seem fair, does it?

It is really expensive, I have also been putting it off. It will be only be about $100 cheaper for the 3 day pass at disneyland to what I will be paying for the Annual passes at WDW:( It better be a great 3 days.:)

Did you see the DVC discount on APs? There's a special on right now

Yes, I am busily trying to scrape the money together to get all 6 of us one before it finishes at the end of April. Its not as good as the last DVC discount they had but its better than nothing.

I'm pricing 10 days Value accommodation at WDW, 10 day pass with WPM, dining plan and photo pass plus for Jan. It's coming back (on today's prices) at around $5k!!!!

Knowing Disney, once the prices for Jan come out it will be even more. Our cruise went up heaps based on the previous year. Just trying to save as much as I can so we don't have to miss out and trying not to think about what else we could spend the money on!!

I just wanted to present a comparison incase it interests you.

10 nights mid Jan, Standard View Animal Kingdom Villa (renting points through a broker) = $1600
Discounted tickets through Undercover Tourist (2 adults, 2 kids) = $1730
Regular Dining Plan (2 adults, 2 kids). = $1600. (Although I'm still convinced most people could save roughly 10%, perhaps more, by not getting it)
Photopass = $150
Total = $5080

Renting points is not for everyone, but I definitely think it's worth researching. Especially if it means you can get a deluxe for roughly the same cost as a value.

Totally agree. We rented for our trip to DL in 2010 and stayed in a 2 bed villa which was incredible!. we tried to rent for our trip to WDW last year, but we organised this quickly and it was too late, but we would have if we could. While we do spend more time in the park, coming home to somewhere spacious and luxurious like a villa, just adds so much more to our holidays and this is something we really enjoy.

The regular dining plan is now abut $60 per adult (or just slightly less than that). My DS is 13 and qualifies for an adult.

Last year, my food budget was about $150 per day for the 3 adults. On average, I definitely did less than that.
And we did that budget with a few ADRs/sit down meals in the mix:
  • Crystal Palace Breakfast
  • Raglan Road
  • Cape May breakfast
  • Hollywood Brown Derby
  • California Grill
  • Yak and Yeti
  • Tony's

For my family, we've worked out that we only need a sit down meal once a day; especially when Food and Wine is on. YMMV and it may be totally different for your family. That's not to say that we starved or only ate Disney burgers for the other meals. Far from it. I don't recall eating a burger at WDW at all.

The most expensive days were at Epcot; where I didn't have any ADRs booked. We 'snacked' at the Food and Wine festival - brunch, lunch and dinner. It's amazing how much 3 or 4 bites each for 3 people can end up costing!

It also helped that we were in a DVC Studio and for a couple of the mornings, we just got bagels and ate breakfast in the room. And we also had a cook-out with Dis-friends for one of the dinners; which took away the need for another dinner.

When we want last Nov we had free dining in our package. It was our first trip to WDW so didn't really know what to expect how to manage etc. I started out by trying to keep the receipts to see how much it was costing so I could see if the "free dining" was worth it.

I didn't do that for long. In the end, my gut feeling, unless you are a very big eater and want snacks/desserts/ drinks with every meal, then I think you can do better without it. It probably then just goes to convenience , which for us is worth something so I would think again about getting it
