Oh geez, so my DH and I wanted to go on the Cities of Knights & Lights ABD in 2011 using our DVC points. We have been planning ahead, saving all of our DVC points for this year (and planning to use points from 2011 & 2012), and we already have enough BA Miles to get our airfare virtually free. Today I got the point breakdowns for K&L from DVC member services and I am in SHOCK.

Old point structure per adult ($3809-$4699):
566 Value / 598 Regular / 621 Peak

New point structure per adult ($4339):
620 for all dates!

Now, we don't have enough points. How frustrating. We could do the Gateway for 504 points, but we were 85% sure that K&L was the way we wanted to see London and Paris our first (and possibly only) time. Plus, I prefer the whole idea of peak vs. non-peak seasons... how can all be the same price? No sector of travel has one price for all days, that makes no sense whatsoever.

Now, we are torn between the Gateway or the Alaska Cruise. I don't know what to do. And, who should I complain to about this new pricing/point structure?

Have you considered renting your points on the DIS DVC boards? Even if you rented your available points for below the going rate, you should have enough for you AbD trip.

I have a few clients who are DVC members, but they always rent their points and then book their AbD or DCL with me. It's just more cost-effective for them. I'm also a member but never use points for my AbD trips -- too many!

Just a thought! I'd hate for you to give up the trip of your dreams. I just went on Knights and Lights and it was really wonderful!

Thanks Dotti, that is an excellent suggestion. I have never rented points because I assumed it was a huge hassle, plus I didn't know if I would have to pay income tax on the money I received from the rentals... a whole other can of worms.

I will really consider it since we are in such a pickle with the two of us having our hearts set on something and then being told, 'no!'
