Stich's Great Escape

DH and I went on this on the one night we didn't have the kids with us - we both hated it. Next time back at the MK, with the kids, they wanted to ride, we warned them, but of course they know it all ;) - they hated it too (DS is 10 and DD is 7). Very disappointing, especially with all the promotions for it!

DD really wants to try the Stitch ride, but she is only 4. Wondering how other 4ish year olds handled the ride. She is also looking forward to tower of terror :scared: , splash mountain :duck: , and thunder mountain railroad :cool1: this year. :Pinkbounc She was too short last year for any of these. She loved Pirates of the Carriabean pirate: and Haunted House :scared1: and can't wait to do these again.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to ride it. My ds7.5 adores Stitch, and as soon as he sees the ride, there will be no stopping him. Maybe that would be a good time for father/son bonding? I could do a little shopping... :rolleyes1

AE scared the crap out of me...Stitch I could deal with. I think they tamed it down alot FOR kids.

but that's just me.

I have such high expectations, we are going soon and this is on my to do list. I loved Alien Encounter, scared the crap out of me the first time, but it was great. Hope it isn't too lame. :cool1:

I really didn't like the Stitch ride, Alien Encounter really scared me. I loved that ride! Maybe we should make a campaign to bring back AE! :p

:cheer2: BRING BACK ALIEN ENCOUNTERS!!! :cheer2:

I for one wasn't very impressed although I do agree than Disney needed a more family friendly attraction that the former Alien..... Disney could have done so much with this attraction but they chose not to, wasted space..

I have never been on AE. My DH told me the set up is the exact same. They more or less changed the animatronics. It does get really dark at one point and the harnesses come right on your shoulders. Another point of interest - maybe - when we were there in April they were not offering the FP because they were doing something to the other theater. Making changes maybe???

DD Had just turned 3 when we went on it - this was when the height requirement was only 35 in. It had a negative impact on our entire trip - she was terrified of anything she couldn't "see" from that point on - eg. She loved Barnstormer but was afraid of the Beauty & the Beast show (until it started)

Prior to Stitch she had been on Haunted Mansion & Snow White & loved them. She even enjoyed Maelstrom - of course she cried before getting on it - she couldn't see what was going to happen & was still traumatized from Stitch.

I think what got her was she believed the things were actually happening TO her. On other rides she could cling to me & was just observing things - on this ride she was strapped down & tortured! There was nothing I could do (other then holding her hand) to comfort her - I just wanted to hold her & tell her it would be ok. She is not afraid of the dark or loud noises - she was just so young she really believed this was happening - that an alien (even though it was just Stitch) had escaped & was actually touching her!

I think the question you need to answer is does your dd understand this is just "pretend"?

I still feel guilty about taking her on it – When it was over she was hysterical & I just started crying – definitely not my best “mommy moment”

I'm so sorry this happened to you! It's especially hard when you've tried your best to make sure the kids are having the time of their lives, something isn't as you'd hoped, and you really can't fix it.

On the bright side, if that's your worst mommy moment ever, you're doin' o.k. :teeth:

Like others here we will give it a try when we are there next month and see what we think
What I found interesting is that among the negative reviews you hear that its lame and a nothing ride and then you hear that its too scary and intense for some kids, can it be both ? I guess it depends on the age of the rider
but it seems like oppositie ends of the spectrum
