I'm so glad people are enjoying this so far! On to day 3...
So, we went to Tusker House for a character breakfast. It was EMH at AK so we got there around 8:30, got fastpasses for Everest, and headed over to Tusker House for our 9:05 ADR. It was a bit of a wait to get in. They gave us a pager but they weren't using the pagers. A lady with an accent was just yelling out names and I found I had to concentrate on each one to tell if it was us or not.
Finally, we were called, got our picture taken at the entrance, and were seated in the smaller room off to the side. It was my first time at Tusker house since they changed it from a counter service. It looks pretty much the same except the counter area is now the buffet. I always thought it was a pretty nice atmosphere for a counter service anyway.
I apologize but I don't have any food pics from this meal. The presentation just isn't the same with a buffet, but I should have taken pics of the buffet itself. Think Chef Mickey's with an African decor. it was pretty run of the mill Disney breakfast buffet. As for the character interaction, I found it to be quite brief but then we were a table of two adults.
Lunch was at the Yak & Yeti. This is one that I wasn't really looking forward to. I knew there wasn't much on the menu that was really going to appeal to us. But there isn't much to choose from for table service in AK so Yak & Yeti it was.
We arrived shortly before our ADR and this was one place where we probably did need an ADR for lunch, it was busy. And disorganized! I don't know if their computers were down or they just don't have any. They had a guy at the door who was taking names and checking them off a paper reservation list. Then he wrote our name down on a slip of paper and gave it to the girls at the podium. It was a mess and there were a lot of people waiting around the foyer.
When we were seated our waitress came over. I don't know how she gets any work done in a day because she was so chatty. And it was an awkward kind of chatty and it was noisy in the restaurant so I couldn't hear her very well. It made interactions with her quite painful. So, as I was expecting, nothing on the menu was super appealing to me. There were a couple of stipulations for the
DDP on this menu too. Some appetizers and one dessert were meant to be shared so they counted as 2 on the dining plan. No big deal.
For an appetizer, I got Pork Egg Rolls.
They were actually some of the best egg rolls I've ever had, no kidding. They were a cabbage base with chunks of pork and a nice crispy shell. Very good.
Steve got Steamed Mussels.
He liked the mussels but that base that they were in was really salty. That was a comon complaint from both of us all week though. It seems that maybe it's a geographical thing. Around here (Nova Scotia) food tends to not be all that salty so we really noticed it in Florida.
My entree was Shrimp Lo Mein.
I didn't really care for it but as I said, this isn't my favourite kind of food. So maybe don't take my word for it. The noodles were good but there were too many sprouts and other vegetables for me.
Steve got Seared Miso Salmon.
He really liked it and I was surprised because this typically isn't his kind of thing either. "Very yummy" he says.
For dessert we shared the Chocolate Brownie Sundae.
Ok, so we forgot to take a picture before we ate it. But take that as a sign that it was good. It was vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, and brownies. Yum!
After we ate our sundae, Steve went to the bathroom while the waitress brought the bill over. He still had about a third of his beer left. The waitress said "Oh, not to rush you at all but if he wants, I do have a to-go cup for his beer"

That's one thing about the majority of Disney restaurants. There's no waiting around for your food. They make sure they're turning over the tables as quick as possible. Not like at home where we're used to waiting 30 minutes for our food. Anyway, that's a side note. She was nice about it but we did feel rushed. We took the to-go cup and laughed about it.
Ok, so on to my favourite meal of the week... da da daaaa.... Narcoossee's! Ooh, it was so good...
We arrived right on time and had to wait only a couple of minutes. Our waiter was lovely and explained several things on the menu. Very expensive menu with no restrictions for the DDP. We had a table on the lower level with a beautiful view of the lagoon and MK. I loved the atmosphere, sophisticated but not at all stuffy.
My appetizer was the Artisan Cheeses.
Funny story about the cheeses. When the waiter brought it to the table, he gave me a little info on each, what they were and where they were from. There was a blue cheese, a goat's cheese, and a "Black Diamond aged white cheddar from Canada".

Canadians will know why I'm laughing. Black Diamond is a mainstream grocery store cheese here. You can get a big brick for $4.95 or whatever. So Steve and I got a kick out of that. But god love them, the Black Diamond was my favourite cheese.
Steve got Fried Calamari.
It was a mixture of the rings and the little tiny squids. He liked it, I can cope only with the rings. I can't bear to eat a little squid whole.
My entree was the fabulous Steamed Whole Maine Lobster.
It was all pre-cracked so it was easly to get into. That's slightly cheesy scalloped potatoes and broccoli under the lobster. And that's melted butter above my plate. This was all so delicious. We live in an area where lobster is quite plentiful so I've eaten a lot of it but this was probably the best I've ever had. It was so juicy and tender. Mmmm....
Steve got the Surf and Turf.
That's the same potatoes and broccoli as mine. And the steak was perfect. But WARNING, that lobster tail is not the same kind of lobster as my delicious stuff. First of all, it looked kind of strange. The shell was kind of mottled looking. Steve ate a few bites and said something wasn't right about it. I tried it and it was really stringy and fishy tasting. NOTHING like mine. We asked the waiter about it and it turns out that the lobster on the surf and turf was Carribbean lobster while mine was from Maine. Completely different species. The waiter took it back and brought Steve another steak instead. Actually, it was a whole new pile of potatoes and broccoli as well after Steve had all ready eaten his first steak and potatoes. He joked that he had seconds that night. Anyway, moral of the story is: if you're looking for really good lobster, skip the surf and turf and go for the whole lobster.
Steve's dessert was the Almond-crusted Cheesecake.
He says now "it was good but almond-y". He's not a huge fan of almonds but loves cheescake.
Mine was Strawberry Shortcake.
Really good. Super light and refreshing but nicely sweet.
We both pretty much rolled out of Narcoossee's. This was about the point when the deluxe DDP started to catch up with us. Steve was awake for most of that night all bloated. We actually had an ADR for Chef Mickey's the next morning but we skipped it in favor of cold cereal at Everything Pop.
So, coming up... 50's Prime Time Diner and Mama Melrose's. I'll get them up as soon as I can.
