At a time when he should be enjoying his well-earned fame and be on top of the World,he just can't seem to get out of his own way.

He still had a chip on his shoulder at the National Championship Celebration toward many Bulldog fans.

And now an apparent Public Intoxication arrest at a time when, considering the recent tragedy at Georgia,an arrest of this nature was the last thing the Georgia program needed.

Really hard to understand.

Dallas Police responded to reports of a man banging on doors in the 1600 block of Tribeca Way, according to information provided to the Athens Banner-Herald by the department’s public information office.

When officers arrived, they located the 25-year old Bennett, the two-time national championship starting quarterback for the Bulldogs, and “determined he was intoxicated,” police said.

Well remember when Cleveland Browns chose Johnny Manziel even though many reguarded him as overhyped and immature coming out of college? Was a huge flop in the pros. Only played in some minor leagues after that and faded out of the picture. If you spend most of your time in college preparing to turn pro and everyone telling you how great you are, I can see how that happens.

I don’t fault the guy for going out having some fun, but banging on doors at 6am? Maybe he has no friends to tell him to stop acting like an idiot….

What pro team would want him if he's coming to them as an immature 25-year-old.

Wait, never mind. Someone would take him. And then he'll be a bust.
Honestly it might be that he is facing the reality that this is his prime, and now he'll have to find his next job. I don't think he is pro material except maybe a backup in case of. They are only calling him a "potential" for the draft. BUT there are lots of companies that love to hire college athletes so he'd have no problem finding a good job. Maybe he was in Dallas for an interview .....

I'm still salty that he won the Heisman. The winner of the Heisman is supposed to go to a player "whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity" and who epitomizes great ability combined with diligence, performance, and hard work." He never showed signs of having integrity and has never acted like the role model the Heisman winner should be.

He didn’t win the Heisman. USC quarterback did. Supposedly he was in Dallas getting ready for the NFL draft. Don’t know how getting drunk is useful for that. Even if the NFL doesnt work out. Plenty of big money UGA boosters will give him a job. Plus money signing memorabilia etc.

Spent many a weekend in Athens. UGA has a long standing reputation for a reason. 🍻
"I don't know. I sort of always liked playing them that second game because you could always count on them having two or three key players suspended." Steve Spurrier.

Oh you couldn’t have picked a coach I like less. 🤣 Funny as I drove here to Disney there was a big billboard for his restaurant and it made me snarl.

Is this guy, who is 25, just getting out of college now? ETA: I just looked him up - how was he allowed to play college football for 6 years?

I couldn't agree with you more. I never cared for Spurrier, he was my least favorite college coach. As for NFL, least favorite Coach would probably have to be Jon Gruden.

Athletes are allowed 5 years in order to actually play (in games) 4. The 5th year is the "red shirt" year. You generally don't play in any games in that 5th year (usually the freshman year) but can practice with the team. Bennett had his red shirt year as a Georgia walk on in 2017.

He spent one year (2018) at Jones College and returned to Georgia for 2019 under scholarship.

2019 (sophomore year of eligibility), 2020 (junior year of eligibility), 2021 (senior year of eligibility) all were at Georgia. NCAA gave all athletes an additional year of eligibility because of Covid. That gets him through the 2022 season.

Also some start sports later and often play eligibility during their masters. Some go to college after military and compete. 25 not unusual in other sports.
