Sterling - Dollar hit's $1.54 at 9.35 this morning

Couldn't resist a 1.7c jump so just grabbed a few $$ - still hoping for it to go up a little more over the next couple of weeks but if not then at least I can console myself that I got something above 1.51

Mmmm - maybe time to get a few.

I learnt yesterday that if you shop instore at Sainsbury's foreign currency bureau and use your Nectar card, you get a little bit more :thumbsup2 Might e useful tip for those who get their $$ there.

UK posted better than predicted financials today, whether or not it'll last is another question

I think that even the slightest growth or the slightest increase will have huge impacts due to how bad things have been.

The fact is has hit $1.54 this morning is brilliant. Hopefully the slight positive news keeps on coming and the £ can keep getting stronger. Be good for all those going out in the summer! As was said, nice to get something over $1.50!

Still at 1.54 today but Sainsbury's is only offering 1.50 :(

Got ours at 2$ to the £ last we went, need to keep an eye out as only have 15 months to go :(

I watch XE.

I've never seen XE conversion matched online prepay card or in travel agent.

Am I looking in wrong places ?

Prepaid cards and travel agents give you a lower rate than you see on XE, they show the interbank rate.
Only way to get the XE or interbank rate is use a fee free credit card like Post office or Halifax Clarity, I use both and get the full rate, not used cash for a few years now.

XE provide current mid-market inter-bank rates, so the rate the banks get because they're trading in millions - our holiday currency is pennies to them so the rate is always lower. Generally FairFX and the like tend to be the closest to the bank rate.

:goodvibes

Timey wimey, wibbly wobbly etc.

I have a clarity but will take this empty as emergancy, don't intend to use it.

I was looking at fairfix or maybe a per paid travel card, cash passport I think they call it.

US posted worse than expected financials, which is adding to the upturn. I was going to buy today, but I think it'll go up again. The problem at the moment is that all major currencies are in a race to the bottom so it's so unpredictable.

as have been going for over 20 years and have seen bad $1.10 to £ and good $2.10 to £ have found the average to be around $1.60 to £ over that time frame. We always use that as our bench mark as that's what we bought our dvc at. Nice to see it creeping up :-)
Paul

Our first trip was around 1.3. We were lucky and it was 2.10 when we had to pay for our wedding. Even luckier that we bought into DVC at just over 2.00 making it more of a bargain.

Generally I'm happy with anything over1.6 :)

I used my Post Office CC to pay off our villa and was pleasantly surprised to see a rate of 1.53, when the statement arrived, about 2 weeks ago :thumbsup2

i just got a bit of cash changed at sainsburys today 1.51 with nectar card. only changed £50 but at least i cant spend it when its in dollars ( yet anyway)

we only have 16 week to go so im just going to get £50 each week when i go to do my foodshop if the rate stays decent
