Hi all,
I have a family member heading down to WDW next weekend with an infant. What are her options for sterilizing bottles? Is there a coffee maker or Keurig?
I know there isn't a microwave....

They sell electric baby sterilizers. She can bring one down.

I know the food courts at the moderates have microwaves, unsure about AOA...It would be a hassle but if they are set on sterilizing this would probably be the most air travel friendly and cost effective way to do it.

I wasn't aware anyone in the US still sterilized bottles quite honestly. I know we didn't with DGD, who is 9 now. Didn't with DD for that matter. They told us when I had DD that unless you had a questionable water source, like a self dug and untreated well, it was just not necessary. Are you sure they still sterilize the bottles?

They can just wash the bottles in the sink. No need for sterilizing.
It would be nice to think that, but it isn't always true.

I was required to sterilize my son's bottles. And boil the water used to make his formula.

We ended up using Platex bottles with inserts, then we only need to sterilize the nipples. And we could use a microwave for that.

It's till highly recommended to sterilize the nipples (especially when there's oral thrush involved)...but we just used the sterilize setting on the dishwasher. And the formula water technically needs to be sterilized (but I wouldn't use tap water for that or a resort provided coffee maker unless I was out of options).

Wow, learn something new all the time. We used tap water. Never been told otherwise. Thankfully the kids were all fine with it (used powdered formula too)
And they told us not to use the dishwasher for nipples. Was known to make them brittle, and cracked

Thankfully, never had to battle thrush but yeah, if you have an illness, all procedures change of course. Illness, immune compromised, etc, different processes all together.

I used the Playtex bottles with disposable inserts. Since we didn't always have a microwave available in our room I used hot tap water, as hot as I could get it. You could do this to get you by until you get to the park and visit baby care and use a microwave there to sterilize the nipples in one of the Medela sterilization bags a pp mentioned.

For the most part (for most people) the bottles only need to be sterilized before their first use. I'm leery of tap water because the water in my town has some plastic byproduct in it (that nobody really knows a safe level). If was traveling with an infant, I would stock up on bottled water to rinse/wash the bottles and then use a microwave sterilizer bag.

Since the LM rooms don't have microwaves (I think there might be one in the food court), I'd sterilize a day's worth of stuff at breakfast. It would be a pain, but it's doable. Or make the baby care the first stop in the parks and sterilize a day's worth there...

There are microwaves in the foodcourt. Maybe not a popular thought, but if there's no medical necessity, skip sterlizing the bottles. When my kids were little, the pediatrician said it wasn't necessary.

It is probably not popular to say because for those of us that were told to do it, by our doctor, heard it so many times from people that didn't know our child's medical history.

After my MIL told me for the billionth time that I didn't need to do it, I pretty much blew up.

I sterilized my son’s bottles daily by boiling until he was about 6 months old, and weekly after that.

Our pediatrician advised us to never, ever use tap water to make bottles. We always bought infant water from the store per the pediatrician’s advice.

Medela makes sanitizing bags that can be placed in the microwave. If the child doesn’t have medical concerns, it may work to just sterilize the nipples in the steam bag in the food court and wash the bottles with hot water in the sink.

Most companies also sell bottle sterilizers as well.

Having a toddler isn’t the easiest thing in the world, but I’m sooooooo glad to be done with bottles and formula!

Never sterilized after the first use. Pediatrician told us it was not necessary, and that anything but tap was a waste of money.

At WDW, I just brought down a bottle brush. I might have even used shampoo to wash them out..

We never sterilized our bottles/nipples ever. Bought them and right in the dishwasher they went. On vacation they got hand washed. Also used tap water, which is fine unless from certain well sources.

Not sure if this can be done in every resort, but in the Poly, we requested a microwave and had one in the room within 24 hrs of request. Maybe AoA can do this too?
