Stereotypical/"Racist" jokes

I hate to say this but i absolutely love jokes against white people!!! BTW I am white..........I think it really depends on the intent of the joke whether to be mean or just to be funny but i would never make a joke against someone if I knew they werent ok with it. just my personal opinion on the subject
You don't know what someone is thinking, so it's best to just not say derogatory things.
...Russell Peters anyone?
A "rascist" joke (and by that, a joke that singles out another race/culture/religion/society of any sort!) does not have to be mean or cruel, but just a truthful observation of that group. The "go back to the ovens" joke about the Jewish religion was just plain wrong and is not a joke at all, as it is highly disrespectful and offensive, but a Russell Peters style "Brown people are cheap" joke, is not..

It really all depends on the joke, and even if such-and-such jokes are offensive in your opinion, wouldn't it just make the person saying these jokes seem more of a loser anyways!?
I think that if you're going to go out of your way to say someting offensive about another race/religion/sex/etc, then you really are prejudice against them. It may even be a subconcious type of thing.
I think jokes are only offensive you if let them be. If someone wants to call me a cracker for being white I really could care less. I think people get too afraid and are so politically correct it's insane.

People do get offended though and I don't think it's right to make jokes based on race and religion but if it happens people need to not get so offended and let it go. It's a stupid joke.
Yeah, well. If I was jewish and someone said 'go back to the ovens' (even jokingly) I think I have the right to be offended and it was nothing to do with being PC.

Oh wow...I guess I'm not thinking of that kind of joke. I'm thinking of like "Jews are cheap" type jokes. I guess when I think of racist and religious humor I think of really stupid things to joke about that I wouldn't get offended over. Like...black guys with their doo-rags, baggy pants and grillz, I don't know exactly but stupid things like that, not anything about a black person being hanged or whipped.

The type of joke you bring up is a disgusting one and there is no way in hell I would condone that type of "joke".

I only brought it up because of what Alexis said. If a 'joke' can really be that hurtful in one sense, then couldn't they be hurtful all around? I don't know how to explain it.

Basically I'm saying, why do it if it could be even mildly offensive to the person? You might think relating black people to doo-rags and baggy pants is hilarious, but does that black person?

I'm not saying we should constantly walk around on our tip-toes trying not to offend anyone, but why mention such personal things as race or religion?

They shouldn't be mentioned. Sexual orientation shouldn't either.

I know a black person might take offense to a baggy pants and doo-rag joke but if I were in their shoes I wouldn't be offended because that type of joke is just playing on a stereotype. If someone is a Republican and they were told "all Republicans are Jesus freaks" it's just a stupid joke about Republican stereotypes. I guess I'd be thankful that would be the only thing I'd have to worry about if I got that upset about it.

IMNSHO, there's a clear difference between jokes, and real offensiveness. Like on NPR they were talking about how the Pope hated The Sound of Music. They were talking about how the Von Trapps weren't Jewish, and if they were, the song would be "This is 17, but for you, 16." That's a joke. I laughed. Saying "Go back to the ovens" isn't a joke.
