Hiya,

Was just wondering if the band 'Stereophonics' have *made it* particularly in the US?

Have you heard of them? If so, which albums? (Not sure if they've released them all over there you see).

I'm just listening to their newest and I just *love* some of the songs on there completely and wondered what other ppl thought... but perhaps here isn't the place to ask - esp if most of you haven't heard of them!!

Please no one take offence, just unsure of their impact in the States thus far :)

I have heard of them:sunny: I have a Jools Holland cd that has a cut from them on it.

Hiya,

Hmmm so mostly they are unheard of...

Which track do you have Micca? You like?

It's strange cos' when they tour they often do quite a few dates in the US.

They also recorded a song with Tom Jones, perhaps ppl have heard of that one? It was a cover of 'Mama Told Me Not To Come' and was excellent :) It was on his 'Reloaded' album. It was an album of collaborations between Tom and a lot of new young talent such as The Cardigans, Fine Young Cannibals and even my very favourite... Cerys Matthews of Catatonia!

I think it's safe to say they are an unknown quantity here. The track I have is performed with Jools Holland's big band and it's a cover of Revolution by the Beatles. Covering Beatle songs is pretty futile in my opinion, but they do a pretty good job. I may have heard some other tracks from them, but I can't recall them.
How does the new cd compare to their past output?

Hiya Again,

The new album is called 'Youve Got to go There to Come Back' and is really excellent. I would say that it's not as 'mainstream' rock as their other stuff. It is very 'mellow', very 70s rock I believe (tho' I wasn't around then to judge!) My mum always says that they sound like The Kinks. I think this record probably does more than their others.

If you *ever* get the chance to buy/beg/steal or otherwise hear the album 'Word Gets Around' - do. It's beautiful. Really fantastic. The tracks 'Traffic', 'Local Boy in the Photograph' and 'Same Size Feet' are amazing songs. Truly Kelly Jones (the songwriter/lead singer) at his best.

I will convert you, oh yes ;)

I kinda like the Kinks so I will watch for the cd. Thanks for the tip:earsboy:
