Stephen King isn't so scary..........

It's the same thing when Bill Gates gives, It's never enough :confused3 because he has so much. Yet, when you talk with those he has given to, they are very grateful.

Perhaps a bus is what they could get. Good for him for doing what he does.

He could have donated his life savings and someone would complain that he should have worked harder and saved more so his donation could be bigger.

Just because he makes a lot of money doesn't mean he has to give a penny of it away. The fact that he chooses to (regardless of how much) is nice.

Why do we have to judge everything?

Sometimes, when celebrities donate, it's a case of "darned if you do, darned if you don't." No matter what they do, it isn't enough, they shouldn't have donated to that cause because (whatever), they're only telling us so we think they're great, etc. etc. For whatever reason, the Kings donated the money. Good for them.

It is a fact that most wealthy give a far less percentage to charity.

Where are you getting this fact? All the wealthy people I personally know give to charity, whereas most of the middle class people I know don't give to charity other than to donate clothes that they've outgrown.

Most of the richest people in the world have actually set up foundations whose sole job it is to spend their money on worthy causes.

What percentage of your income do you give to charity each year? We'll compare that to the rough estimate we can put together from what we know of Stephen King :thumbsup2.

Big or small, charity in any form is a good thing. Thankfully we all don't have the same passions that drive our giving, otherwise there would be a lot of overlooked causes in the world :).

You know.. their donation made it possible for these families to be reunited for the holidays. That's all that matters. Could he have flown them home? Maybe. The point is - they made it home for Christmas for one more visit before they get deployed. :thumbsup2

I think everyone should just be happy for these families instead of judging how much Stephen King could have or should have donated.

Very well said, somehow I don't think the soldiers or their families cared how they got home, it's the fact that they got home that mattered (and per one quote in the article "The kids were ready to give up all their presents to have him home.”). I'm guessing logistically the bus made the most sense this time of year and may have been the only option.

Kudos to Stephen and Tabitha King, they do so much for this area and beyond. :thumbsup2

Ditto!!!!!!!

That was nice of him. I'm a HUGE King fan, but couldn't help but think he could have easily sent them home on a plane. He certainly can afford it.

He spent $12,999 on the bus trip. He didn't like the way 13,000 seemed unlucky, so an assistant pitched in $1.

King makes between $80-$100 million A YEAR. Think what a small faction that little piece of generosity was to his total wealth.

The people who have the most, usually give the smallest percentage of their wealth to charity.

Just my thoughts...

Wow. That is kind of a judmental opinion, isn't it? I mean, he could have not even bothered. Instead he gave these families a nice Christmas visit before the people had to be deployed.

No matter how much $$$ or time or whatever some people give, someone always wants them to give more. :sad2:

I think their donation was awesome. I've been a fan forever, purchase his books & read the newsletter regularly. As previously stated, he regularly donates time and money to charities. I think he and his wife are a great inspiration & I thank them for their generosity.
