Stephen King blasts Stephanie Meyer, the author of Twilight. USA Weekend is told by King that Meyer who is considered to be the best selling writer is not very good. The interview is to be published in the issue of March 6-8 as the cover story.

Stephen King of the few last decades is considered to be novelists who have been most successful. He is famous for writing tales that are blood-soaked with supernatural beings and creepy monsters. Meyer, on the other side, tries out her hand writing about kingdom of vampires, bloodletting and werewolves. So why is King not liking Meyer?

King told the magazine of USA Weekend the difference between Stephenie Meyer and Jo Rowling. The interview would be published in the issue of March 6-8 as the cover story. A scandalous swipe was taken by King at the author of Twilight while answering the innocent question of whether his professional career has influenced the artists who are younger in a similar manner as he in his youth was influenced.

King told that his works has a type of formative influence. He was influenced the same way by reading the books of Richard Matheson. The books of H.P. Lovecraft were read by kid. But King actually never had the pleasure while reading Lovecraft’s books. The language in the books of Lovecraft was chiller than his heart was. Matheson when began to write on ordinary stuff and people, it was then liked by him.

King explained the way to do the things. He appreciated the author of I Am Legend and compared his positive reception to the manner the Harry Potter and Twilight authors have been influenced by him. He considered himself good for having served that idea for few writers.

King also compares in the article Meyer the Twilight queen with Perry Mason another successful but yet not quite good author. He told that Meyer’s stories are being written for girls and for opening up to join sex and love in the books.

While explaining the success of Meyer, King told that the fans of Twilight are actually not ready for the portrayal of adult and real romance. It is said to be thrilling and exciting but not threatening particularly for they aren’t openly sexual.

Big head, Mr. King? OMG! I just finished Twilight, and I thought it was very suspenseful! More than any of his books of late. It was refreshing to read a book without every other word being the F-bomb. Does he really think he has been the influence for all young writers? Is it on record that he influenced Harry Potter, or does he just believe he did?

I know one thing, I can't hand a Stephen King novel to my 12yo DS, like I handed him Twilight this morning!

Is this article for real?

It is so poorly written I can hardly believe it. I cannot believe it was published anywhere.

I think it is someone writing about the article that will be published in USA Weekend next month.

First off, I loved the Twilight Series, but you cannot compare Meyers to King. Twilight was suspensful..at times..., yet King keeps you on the edge the whole time. I am not knocking Meyers, I think her series was good and I appreciate it that younger readers can enjoy it too, but Stephen King IS the master of horror. Meyers is more love story with horror thrown in.

Used to love Stephen King's books...read them all. But, in the past 10 years or so, I just got weary of the 'wordiness' and overall weirdness of his books. Ever since Pet Cemetary his stuff started going downhill...for me anyway.
Stephanie Meyers? Well....while I found the books to be entertaining, I don't think they were particularly well written. I read all them all in about a week. I found that each one was pretty much the same thing, over and over, but with different characters and slightly different settings. But, they were entertaining.
I have to agree that they were written with teenaged girls in mind...which in and of itself, is going to take away any thoughts of an extremely well written book. Even the Potter books were the same old, same old pretty much. But, I found them to have many more twists and turns in them. And the fact that they appealed to both sexes makes them even better.

The 'Twilight' series is just a romance novel for teenaged girls. Nothing wrong with that. And Stephen King comes across as mean spirited....it's not as if he is Hemingway after all!!!

I will assume that article was written by someone whose first language is not English. It was horrid.

That said, this is nothing new. Meyer is not a good writer. Period. She spins a pretty good story, but her prose leaves MUCH to be desired.

And to the rabid fans...Stephen King's OPINION should be of no more consequence to you than mine or anyone elses. Do you really care what he thinks?

I agree with him. I'm sure the Twilight fans will be all over me for this but I'd rather my dd read a Stephen King book than a series of books that features such a wishy washy and weak lead female character. I do not want my dd to be a Bella.

DD11, just got the 1st Twillight book and I have read a little bit of it and as a HUGE reader, it didn't grab at me, making me want to sit there and read until I couldn't read no more. She's not tearing thru the book, like she and DS13 did with the HP books. The writing is too slow.

So, I would have to agree with King that JK gets 2 :thumbsup2 , while Meyers gets 1 atta girl for having the skills she does have in order to write the books she has and 1 keep working on those writting skills and fine tune them.

I use to read Stephen King myself. not so much lately, but you have to admit The Stand is probably one of his finest.. Hard to top that one.

I have the first book Twilight, but have not started it yet.

If true, King has made what is really not a fair comparison. For all intents and purposes, the "Twilight" series are children's books. King writes for the adult market. It's a completely different demographic, so of course the books are "different" — particularly in how they approach sex and sexuality.

Stephen King is an amazing writer, and the Twilight series are just not well written. Loved by teenagers - absolutely! It's like comparing caviar to fish sticks.

Loved 'The Stand'..have to agree, one of his finest, if not the best.
Then again, I loved HP Lovecraft..now there was a horror writer...:scared:

I find it kind of ironic if he said that. I remember years ago when critics were panning his works that he said the true mark if you were a successful writer (and why write if you didn't want to be successful-make money) it wasn't what the critics said, but if your work sold.

Most little tidbits on writing I've read from SK include gems like:You want to get up on a soapbox and preach? Fine. Get one and try your local park. You want to write for money? Get to the point.

Never read any Twilight books. I've read a bunch of SK books. I'm guessing neither of them are War and Peace.

I haven't read the Twilight books, but I can understand what he's saying. Stephen King is one of my favorite authors, much to the dismay of my college creative writing professor. While I haven't read anything recently by him, IT will continue to be one of the best books I have ever read. For me, his best and most heart felt writing comes from books that have characters with children.

Um...Perry Mason is a fictional character, created by Erle Stanley Gardner. Or am I reading that incorrectly? I'm just not sure what to make of this article...nothing against the OP, however.

I think Stephen King was referring to the Perry Mason series, not Perry Mason as an actual author.

I've been a Stephen King fan forever, and he's definitely had some hits and misses over the years...but I gotta agree with him on this one. I'm reading the Twilight series now, and she is just not a good writer.

I'm reading Breaking Dawn right now and it is without a doubt one of the worst books I've ever read. And I can't stop reading it, it's like one of those bad movies on cable that you keep watching because you can't believe how bad it is.

JK Rowling is a genius. Stephanie Meyer? Not so much.

Can't say I blame him. She needs to be flogged for book 4.:lmao: It was so awful.

I agree. Book 4 was sooooooo awful. :crazy2:

Stephenie Meyer is definitely not a gifted writer, but I do think that she is a gifted storyteller. The first three books of Twilight really drew me in, bad writing and all.
