Ranger is
Daniel Sunjata

I had to google him and I think he fits the part. Katherine Heigl- eh not thrilled with that one but Sherri will be a great Lulu!

Just googled him too.....Perfect! Also just googled Jason O'Mara! Yummy!

That's who I picture as Lula when I read the books! I wish they would cast someone different for Stephanie though. I was watching The Wedding Crashers the other night and thought Rachel McAdams may be a good Stephanie. I have no clear image in my mind for her when I read. But I always picture Sherri Shephard as Lula and the old lady from Desperate Housewives as Grandma. I love Betty White but don't think this is the right role for her. Need to google the rest of the cast because I don't know who they are.

Sherri Shepard is exactly who I thought of as well. The character she played on Less Than Perfect dressed exactly like LuLu...stuffed into too-tight, revealing clothes.

I think Katharine Heigl will be a crappy Stephanie. Jennifer Garner would have been my pick.

OK i'm a huge JE fan. I cried when they picked Katherine Heigel. I don't think JE is happy with that choice either. But Sherry Shephard will be great. If anything she's a bit too thin for Lulu. She is a huge fan of the series and pursued the roll because of it. I doubt Katherine Heigel had ever heard of the books.
Sherry was funny when describing her wardrobe. I just don't know if she is big enough to be bursting at the seems of everything.
I always though Queen Latifah would be great too. I'll see the movie on opening day and hope it won't be too bad.

What you're all missing is, this is the FIRST book. The characters have changed over the years. The casting is ALL wrong, and the producers are taking liberties they shouldn't, invoking more current books and character traits. They're not ENTITLED!!!!

You tell 'em, Kaytie!!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I think maybe people need to wait till the movie comes out, before getting bent out of shape about the cast. One thing people need to keep in mind, is the movie budget. It may not be big enough to support alot of big name actors. Give it a chance, you might be pleasantly surprised. I love the books and can't wait for the movie to come out. I understand that most movies are not going to be exactily like the books. Sorry to rant, just my 2 cents worth. :)

I think "The RocK" should have been Ranger and Morelli someone more like David Borenaz (or however you spell it) - the guy on Bones -- I agree Heigel :confused3 booo-- Grandma and Lula are my favorites and Sally Sweet too but he doesn't come around yet

People are missing my point. I have few objections to the casting. My issue is, the producers are taking HUGE liberties with the characters and storyline of the ONE book to which they purchased the rights.

I've never, as far as I know, seen Katherine Heigl act. I would reserve judgment. Their "Joe" doesn't fit the character's physical description, but again, I would wait. Daniel Sunjata? Perfect. Sherry Shepard? Forgetting her personal issues, she'd make a great Lula... IF this were any of the later books, especially number three and above. But Lula's character, Lula's personality, REALLY, TRULY, barely come into play in 'One for the Money'. She's a hooker with a mind of her own, sure; and she talks to Stephanie; and she gets beaten up. Badly. But you DON'T need a comedian for that!!!! They're going to feature Lula WAYYYYYYYYY too much - way more than they have a RIGHT to do - in this movie, BASED ON THE BOOK TO WHICH THEY OWN THE RIGHTS!!!!!

Just read in this morning's paper that they cast Debbie Reynolds as Grandma Mazur. I don't see it.:confused3 I think Betty White would have been perfect, but she's busy with that "Cleveland" show.

I don't see it either. Grandma in my imagination was older. Well, Hollywood does wonders with make-up

I had something more in mind like Cloris Leachman, but who knows? I also pictured Mark Consuelos (Kelly Ripa's husband) as Ranger.

I have always pictured Lula as Niecy Nash from Reno 911. She would be perfect.

I just imdb'd her, and I think she could do okay as Grandma Mazur. I am re-reading (yet again) my books and grandma is a spry, thin gal, hair curled tight, with a lot of wit. In her 80's (I think).

Debbie Reynolds is in her late 70's. She's a wonderful actress and she can do a great Grandma Mazur.

There are 16 Stephanie Plum books (not counting the special holiday books in-between). They are not going to make 16 SP movies. Obviously, they'll need to combine some of the books. It's called "creative license" when they take liberties with the storylines. As long as they own the rights, they can do whatever they want. As devoted SP fans, we may object, but they'll be selling this to a lot of people who have never picked up a Janet Evanovich book.

I'm willing to see the movie when it comes out. (of course, I'm one of those strange people who likes Katherine Heigl.)

Obviously, you haven't been reading my well-thought-out and clearly-expressed rants :rotfl2: The producers of this debacle own the rights to one - yes ONE - book: "One for the Money". Janet Evanovich sold the rights to that ONE book before it was published.

These cretins don't HAVE the rights to the other fifteen books, or their story lines. I don't know all the legalities, but they likely don't have exclusive rights to the characters, either. There will be NO need for them to combine anything. Let's let them make their debacle, let it and them fade into the sunset, and move on.

She would have been great! Its obvious though that the powers that be with this movie are expanding the characters. Remember, 9 times out of 10 the book is always better than the movie.

I love these books and have ready all 16 at this time.. (didn't know there were holiday ones in between) BUT I am not happy with any of the casting for the movie at this time.. Suggestions by others for who should plan what parts in these postings are great but we are not the produces. I will see the movie when it comes out - I know 16 movies won't be made and was hoping they would combine several books into one movie but it looks like that can't happen...

Still I will go see the movie and try to enjoy it..

Well then, I guess it's up to Janet Evanovich to sue the producers.

I too am sorely disappointed in the casting for this movie! Katherine Heigl?!? Debbie Reynolds?!? Sorry, but I think they've set out to deliberately destroy the "franchise" of the books (perhaps the reason why Janet only sold #1!)

Ah well...another book trashed by the movies. Won't be seeing this one until it comes out on DVD...I can justify $1 at Red Box...but certainly not the price of a regular movie ticket!
