Steep price increases at Rancho del Zocalo

I've eaten at Rancho del Zocalo for years because they have decent vegetarian tacos. Until recently, they were $9.95. I had a bit of surprise when I went last Sunday and found that they'd been increased to $12.95. That's a 30% increase. Pretty steep. Some cast members have told me that price increases (or service cuts/improvement delays) are a direct result of costs incurred by the building of DL Shanghai. In short, I'll be eating at RdZ a lot less in the future. Less frequent visitors, take heed.

I'll be eating in the parks a lot less in general. One meal a day instead of the 3 plus snacks we used to do. We'll pick and choose our favorites. I agree, I used to always get their vegetarian tacos. In the past there used to be 3. Then they stayed at 9.95 and dropped to 2 (I believe). Now this. They're just not good enough!

Yikes. I always try to only have 1 meal in the parks. 1 meal & a snack or 2, usually.

Dang... thanks for sharing, though. We are on a tight budget for our November trip and were planning on RDZ one day for lunch, assuming the prices were still reasonable and the portions were still large enough to split among our family of 6. It looks like neither may be the case. Guess I will have to figure something else out.

My niece and I always share at Rancho! The plate we get is $15, so only $7.50 a person and it fills us up! We love Rancho and eat there on every trip!

I don't remember a vegetarian *taco*. Allears (updated in April for RdZ) shows:

Trio of Street Tacos - Beef, chicken and carnitas served in corn tortillas with salsa verde, garnished with onions and cilantro. $12.99

Is that what you were getting without the meat?

It's annoying, but what can you really do?

Denny's is OK and filling and not very expensive. Pizza Press is terrific. I do miss Millie's...sigh. Mimi's has nothing vegetarian ontheir menu and the hostess told me they don't even have a veggie burger (just last summer). Oh but Panera is there, now!

We're staying at Anabella in club level, which this time is almost nothing beyond normal rooms, and includes a very nice breakfast.

Maybe we will still check it out then! Thanks! Our big problem is that DH and our two older boys (will be 14 and 11) are big eaters. I imagine 2 meals would easily feed DH, myself, and the two younger boys, but my oldest had 8 pieces of pizza for dinner a couple of nights ago. :/ Our budget is $40 a day for lunch for all of us, so that doesn't give us many options. We will likely need to pack in snacks so we can stick to our budget.

I think they have been going up and perhaps you haven't noticed because I have them ay $11.95 October 10th, 2015.

The Dole whip float has changed too! They no longer include the cherry and umbrella. It costs more too! EEK! Same with the price of the corn dog! Grr! It was $6 now it's $8.75!

Seriously? That's a 46% increase!

The corn dog went up to $8.29 last year and it was $7.99 before that. 30 to 50 cents is a typical Disney price increase. They have had about 3 increases in the last year and a half, but I'm pretty sure it was over a year with most prices staying the same. I usually just keep track of the cost of soda and pretzels, because those are easy to keep up with. But I'm sure there were individual items that have randomly been increased outside the park wide increases in that time.

Well that's interesting. We love to eat there for dinner a couple of times during our stay and the portions are huge. We like to split the Burrito Sonora meal, so while the price increase stinks, it isn't as bad for us because (pre-price increase) for $12 for the plate, we only pay $6 per person. If they raised it to $15, we still only will pay $7.50 a person. Plus an annual pass discount when we get them in October will help out.

14 year old boys are bottomless pits! It's like they're never full. You absolutely should bring in snacks, and lots of them. Also might be worth having a sit down with the oldest and explaining to him how jacked up the prices are in theme parks and show him the budget.

He'll probably understand that while eating in DL, everything is twice as expensive as at home, so eat the 'expensive' food for the taste and the enjoyment of eating it, and use snacks to fill himself up.

We had dole whip floats a few weeks ago and had umbrellas and cherries!

The prices have been steadily increasing for years. I've never seen the Churros at $2 in the last five years. I think Rancho is still a good deal as the prices at all the other restaurants will have gone up too.

I'm sorry I might be confusing the 2013 price when it was $6 for the corn dog. But yeah with the increases it is now $8.75 for the corn dog.
With these price increases, will anyone buy food in the parks or a corn dog as soon it will be $10 for one?
