No seriously, I wished for you the grace, beauty, and hopeful outlook that the character Shelby had. I wanted you to know that you came from strong female stock, and that you could accomplish anything you set your mind too. The character represented everything that I wanted for you, faith, love, intelligence, and happiness.

All the houses used for this movie have large signs in the yards. In a tiny town in Natchitoches , LA the whole movie was filmed. It made Julia Roberts a "Star".

I watched it for the first time the other day, and all I could say was "eh". Wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't bother watching it again. I also didn't cry buckets, or even one tear - I guess either I'm really coldhearted or Julia Roberts being the dead one wasn't such a bad thing.

Now, if DOLLY happened to be the dead one, I might have cried a little. She rocks.

I became a huge fan of Olympia Dukakis after this movie. I loved her! She was the comedy in the sadness.

The scene at the cemetary, when Sally Field has lost it. She is screaming why, why why...the women are standing there letting her let it all out. I am sobbing. Hitching sobs.....then Sally Field says " I just want to hit someone."
Olympia Dukakis grabs Shirley McLaine, shoves here towards Sally Field and says "here, hit her." Do you know what it is like tobe forced to laugh when you are sobbing?

Great movie. But I love tear jerkers.
