I read that not all of the staterooms have a steamer trunk. Is there any way to find out which rooms do and which rooms do not have the steamer trunk? I wonder if my room will have it. I'll be in a Category 9 room on Deck 2.

I'd like to know that also. We have 2594 and 2596 on the May 20th Western. They are adjoining category 9's. With 3 DD's the 2 of us, we have alot of STUFF!

I thought only the Cat 11's didn't have the steamer trunk? That was a big problem for us last cruise, no trunk and no where to put clothes..and we pack light!

It depends on the room you are in. We were in a category 9 (2142) on the Magic and it does not have a steamer trunk.

We were in a sideways Cat 11 on deck 6 on the Wonder, and it had a steamer trunk.

Can somene give a list of which Category 9 rooms on Deck 2 do or do not have the steamer trunk? (whichever is easier)

lunsusie, aren't the Sideways Cat 6s wonderful? With the steamer trunk and the layout they seem much more spacious than the regular Cat 6 cabins.

Do only certain Cat 6 cabins have steamer trunks? We have adjoining rooms but I am also worried about where we are going to put all of our stuff

Here are pictures of the steamer trunk in 5522, a category 10 "secret porthole" ("SPR") stateroom. The steamer trunks are the same in categories 9, 8, 7, 6, and 5.

Take a look at the pictures below. You'll see that the wall jogs in and out to provide a niche for the steamer trunk. The steamer trunks in back-to-back rooms are actually side-by-side, not back-to-back. Clever, eh? The people who design cruise ships have to make every inch count.

There some staterooms that are against solid bulkhead walls. Those walls are straight. Those staterooms don't have a steamer trunk because there's no indentation in the wall for one.

So, to determine if your category 10 SPR, 9, 8, 7, 6, or 5 stateroom will have a steamer trunk, just look at the deck plan and find your stateroom. Look at the two long walls of your stateroom. If one wall jogs in and out, there will be a steamer trunk. If both long walls are straight lines, there will be no steamer trunk.

Someone else will have to answer about the categories that I didn't list.

The category 10s have a double steamer trunk like the category 4s! I loved that little surprise when we walked into the room. :)

The actual definition of a steamer trunk in the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language (Fourth Edition, 2000) is "a small trunk originally designed to fit under the bunk of a steamship cabin."

On DCL, the steamer trunk isn't really a steamer trunk. It's is a piece of furniture that looks like a steamer trunk sitting on its end. Look at the pictures from Werner Weiss in this thread to see a DCL steamer trunk.

The steamer trunk is useful for storage, and it goes well with the "classic ocean liner" decor.

We love the sideways staterooms! We have a sideways Cat 11 on Deck 5 on our upcoming May cruise on the Magic, but I am not sure if it has a steamer trunk.

No, that is not true. Someone posted that 2142 doesn't have the steamer trunk. I checked the deck plan, and it shows that the walls in 2142 definitely do jog in and out. So that is not an accurate way to tell whether or not a room has the steamer trunk.

Does anyone have a list of which rooms do and do not have the steamer trunk? I'm really curious to find out if my room has it.

I can tell you that rooms 2608, 2612, 2614, and 2616 did have the trunks.

But 2610 did NOT have a trunk. 2614 did NOT have a coffee table in it.

Unfortunately I do not know which rooms have them. Our next cruise we have stateroom 2110 and 2111 across the hall and would be cureous to know if either of them ahve the staemer trucks. I agree you can not tell from the deck plans.

2610 shows the walls jogging. So, like I said, the deck plan does not show what rooms do or do not have the steamer trunk.
