steamed lobster or butter poached lobster tails at Narcoossee's?

So just rechecking the menus before we go in 2.5 weeks and noticed that there are a few changes on Narcoossees, including the addition of a twin lobster tail dinner with the butter poached lobster tails. I am half wondering if this makes it easier for a couple to make the surf and turf by ordering and splitting. Same sides as the steamed lobster.

So for those who have had the butter poached lobster tail and the steamed lobster, which is better? butter poached sounds so decadent. I know some say the claws and knuckles are the most flavorful but I'd rather a second tail.

Last time I was at Narcoosseess and ordered the twin tails I couldn't decide either.

So...... I asked for one of each. They were happy to do it.
Can't remember which I preferred.

oh you got one tail steamed and one butter poached... huh. I was basically deciding between whole steamed and twin tails poached. I might add that I live in new england but I never eat lobster at a "nice" restaurant because it's still too pricey even here (not $67-72 but in the $40's and I don't treat myself to that stuff because I'm always saving for my next vacation.) I will once in a while get one at a quick service seafood joint steamed but it is not the same experience eating it out of styrofoam as it is at a nice restaurant. So sanity be damned, I will travel to florida for maine lobster. How were the two tails in general vs. a whole lobster? the whole ones are live and I am assuming the tails were prefrozen.

I guess I didn't read your post carefully enough....
I am originally from New England, and up there one always assumes you're getting a cold water Maine tail.
That's not the case here. It may say "cold water tail" but unless it says "Maine cold water tail", I would not consider lobster. At Shulas I ordered a cold water tail and immediately knew it was wrong. They said "well it comes from the cold waters of South America (or something like that)".

Bottom line, IMO, the only lobster I will order (tail or whole) is cold water Maine lobster.

yeah my question is whole vs. tails although interesting info they will steam the tails. I think I'd go for butter poached, everything I've read says that is the way to go but they will only steam the whole.

They do say "maine" tails. I hear you about the "cold water south american" lobster which isn't a lobster. Edible I guess but not what I'd seek out!

When I went (before the changes), I got the whole steamed lobster and my husband got the surf and turf with the butter poached tail. We each tried both and the butter poached was the winner, hands down! They were both amazing, though!

ooh thank you!
the addition of the twin lobster tails will make the "half and half" thing easier to do... maybe that is why they added it, so that it is easier to split in the kitchen? Who knows. I was leaning toward the twin tails, but now I am sold! I am just figuring that the whole ones are live... and the tails are probably frozen shipped from maine... which I'm sure is fine if done right, so was just looking for a bit of feedback. Yum, i can't wait. I like me a nice piece of tail!

My favourite question... ever. We answered this a couple of years ago when we were on the DDP on our honeymoon. It was awesome, and I was determined to make the most of the free dining we stumbled into.

Hubby isn't so much a fan of the lobster, and ordered the surf and turf for the filet - I ended up with both the 2 lb steamed lobster and the butter poached tail. Honeymoon, indeed.

The steamed lobster was good. The butter poached was out of this world amazing, and I had to go home to learn how to butter poach tails myself. Still figuring it out, but very determined.

I like the idea of one of each, and may do that when we go back, but oh... those memories of butter poached lobster. I'm forever spoiled.

I like the butter poached tails. I am from CT and we do have lovely lobster in our fish markets, and in our restaurants. I am not generally a fan, so one bite of someone elses is all I usually have. I will say that I did enjoy the butter poached tail. They were tender and flavorful. Honestly, they tasted like the lobster I love on a "real" lobster roll. You know the one.....all coated with melted butter, a little salty, and inside of a hot dog roll! Not a drop of mayo to be found....

oooh thank you. I am completely sold. I may be looking forward to this meal most of all. It was a very recent change so hoping they don't change it back before I go lol. I'd rather have 2 tails than steak and a tail!

I know exactly what you mean lol. OMG I can't wait haha. Two of those sound like a nice meal to me, esp since we are on DxDDP and I was super psyched to see the soft shell crab gone for the bbq shrimp and grits. I LOVE seafood lol.

We're headed back in a year, and Narcoossee is on the list. I have every plan to order as much lobster as I can stuff myself with. We live just north of Seattle, and have access to a stupid amount of great beef, and we pay $25 per year for the license to drop our pots off the local pier and catch Dungeness Crab until we are done. We've also got shellfish a-plenty.

Hubby ate three filets last time - I ate a filet, a ribeye, and two lobsters. And next time we won't be on a dining plan that was thrown in as a bonus for good planning. Butter poached lobster has been promised. :D

This is exactly what DH and I did on my birthday trip this past July. He ordered filet, me the butter poached tails. Both were excellent, and we had PLENTY of food, even after splitting our entrees. I only wish we were going back to Narcoossee's for Christmas Eve dinner. . .but the family chose Citrico's instead. Hard to complain, though! LOL

I am going there with my kiddo on the DxDDP. he won't touch lobster but does like steak so if they will let him order off the adult menu, filet it will be for him. I'm sure he will give me a bite or two of his to add a little turf to my surf but it won't be a true surf and turf split :)

Neither. My entire party got violently ill after eating the lobster last time. Not something I wish to repeat.

about 8 years ago I got violently ill after eating at yak and yeti. like projectile vomiting so hard in the shower I felt like I had been beaten with a baseball bat after. I was so sick and paranoid and hallucinating I was convinced that the chef poisoned me because I was asking about dairy in the food since I was nursing at the time and my kiddo was a baby and still nursing. Well 7 years later I am ready to give it another go and I don't think he really poisoned me.
