Steam Train Tour- Where to park?

My DH and DS11 are going on the Steam Train Tour at MK. It starts at 7:30 a.m. on a day when the park opens at 9:00 a.m. The reservation person I bought the tickets from said to park at the Contemporary since it would be too early to park at the TTC and take a ferry or monorail to the park. They have been instructed to meet the tour guide at 7:15 a.m. near a planter box outside MK, near the Contemporary.

My question is, will we be allowed to leave the car at the Contemporary all day? My DS8 and I are not going on the tour and will probably have breakfast at the Contemporary and wait there until we can get into the park. I could move the car if I have to, but I'm just wondering if that will be required or if we can park at the Contemporary all day because of the early tour. I assume if they told us to park there, we would be able to leave the car there all day? Anyone know? Thanks :)

We did this tour this past August, first time, and it was the best thing we did, very interesting and informative.

We also parked at the Contemporary Resort, security gate person directed us as to where to park and stated nothing about moving or 3 hour limit. We stayed in the parks till around 1pm after the tour, to catch some attractions and breakfast and by then it was hot and time for a pool break. The area they diesct you to park is close to the guard building, remote from the resort itself and huge, should be no problem. Enjoy the tour and the really cool pin they give you.

What is this tour. Gosh, my son loves trains. Where can I find out more information on this?

Thank you

We did this tour last May and LOVED IT!!! Jim McLoone was our tour guide and he was amazing with his knowledge of the trains.

From Deb Wills site:

The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains
Magic Kingdom

The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains, a Magic Kingdom park tour, explores Walt Disney's passion for steam trains, while giving Guests the opportunity to join the opening crew as they prepare for the daily railroad operation at the MAGIC KINGDOM. This tour also offers the rare opportunity to visit our backstage "roundhouse".

The tour highlight is the train trip back to the roundhouse with an up-close and personal look at one or more of our locomotives, but the experience is also rich in history about Walt Disney's lifelong fascination with steam trains, how we acquired our four old locomotives, and the operating procedures we follow to serve our annual ridership of over 3 million.* You will received an exclusive pin, designed by one of the engineers, at the end of the tour.

Offered Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays at the MK turnstiles at 7:30 am and ends approximately 10:30 am.

The cost is $40 plus tax and theme park admission is required. Guests must be at least 10 years old to participate. DVC members can receive a 15% discount.

Who do I call to reserve for this?

407-WDW-TOUR will book it for you. The tour is really awesome even for those that are not into trains but tag along. It is really cool.

They will advise you to park at the Contemporary, as mentiond the security guards will direct you as to where you can park and they do not give you a time limit, so you can leave the car there (it is a tour privledge).

Also when you book, the standard tour speil is no cameras so they will tell you that on the phone, but this tour has ample photo opportunites built into it so make sure you have one with you :)

Thanks for the info! I called and they had two spaces left for me and my DS. DW said she would sleep in :)

We're going to be doing the tour next Monday, and we are either going to walk or ride the monorail from the Contemporary. Where exactly does the tour meet in front of MK?

-Michelle

The tour meets right in front of the entrance, before the ticket gates. There may be a few groups in front, but look for the group with train nametags on. DF and I just did this tour in September, it's very informative and interesting.
