My DS and myself are doing the Steam Train tour on 11/23 (Thanksgiving). We have to be at the MK at 7:20 AM- the reservation agent was emphatic about this. We're staying at the Poly, and I've found the monorails/buses are not running that early. Can you walk to the MK or are the Poly boats running at that time? The res agent said I'd need to take a taxi - I'm sure there's another way.

i walked from wilderness lodge to the MK for the steam train tour many years ago, but i doubt you could walk from the poly. better follow the advice and take a taxi.

Could you not ask Conceirge at the Poly for advice. They may have a special way of getting guests there.

wow....i think a cab really is the best way, but not positive. Call the FD and they will tell you :) let us know how the tour went!

You can walk from the Poly to MK, there is a walkway and it's even posted at the MK exit. Also I would ask at the front desk but you may be able to get a monorail at that time. When we did the steam train tour there were many people already at the gates and the monorail was running at 7am.

I know there's a walkway from the Poly to the TTC, but I'm pretty sure the only place you can walk from the MK is the Contemporary.

My DD and I just did this tour on July 10th of this year. We were staying at the SOG...quite close to Poly and had the same question. We were told several times on the phone and at many guest service locations that it may be an issue...just like you have been told. However, we finally found out...that the RESORT monorail would be running at that time. We were told to be there at 7:15...we got there at 7:00...resort monorail was running AND there were TONS of people already in line to enter the park (not there for tours). The tour guide was also very gracious and waited until the last possible minute (7:30) to start so that everyone was able to attend even though we were told to be early. (There were some arrivals later than 7:15.)
This is a really neat tour. If you have ever considered doing it...I say GO FOR IT. I learned alot about Walt, not just the trains. You are actually allowed to take pictures once you get to the "round house" area (which is back behind the MK). We got some really neat ones. I hope that you enjoy it as much as we did. This was my 10 yr olds first tour and our guide was the best.

We took the tour in May 2006. When making the reservation, I was told to go to the Contemporary parking lot and tell the guard at the gate that we were signed up for the tour. We did and he let us in there and it is only a short walk to the MK entrance. We were told to be there at 7:00am and we were but we didn't need to be since we got underway at 7:30. I am a train buff and loved it (our guide made it last as long as we wanted it to, till 10:30). You'll have fun!

If you have a car you can drive over to the Contemporary and park there. I went many years ago with some rail fan friends. I booked and paid for the tour as a surprise. I put everyone in the car and drove them to the CR, still not letting the cat out of the bag ... just that I had a surprise that they have to get up at 0-dark-30 for. I handed the guard at the gate my confirmation and said "Shhhh!! It's a surprise for my friends!" and she said "Oh! You're here for the T-R-A-I-N tour." I said "Yes and my friends are grown-ups and can spell!"

We had a great time and were one of the last groups to receive a silver spike at the end of the tour.
