Figured I would offer an update for anyone that might be interested.
We do not have any carpet in our house. It is all ceramic and laminate wood flooring.
My conclusion is that none of the steam mops clean any better than my old fashioned wet mop, however, using one of these machines is so much faster. In addition, my 80 y/o mom lives with us in the winter and these things allow the floors to dry so much faster than my hand mop so it is safer for my mom.
I originally bought the Shark. It produced a great amount of steam and had a nice, long cord. I did not think it did that great of a job for the $99 price tag.
I bought the Bissell next. The cord was short. It didn't seem to have as much steam coming out of it. I didn't like the handle. It cleaned pretty much like the Shark. $69
I have settled on the Eureka. I liked the handle the best out of all of them. I also like the pads that they use and could easily substitute a towel if needed. The cord is much shorter than the Shark and that is one thing I do not like. The best feature is that my floors are so warm after cleaning with it. It makes me feel like the steam is hot enough to truly disinfect. Again, it isn't that my floors look any cleaner compared to my old fashioned mop but my water was never hot enough to disinfect. I can do my entire house in record time and have a warm, almost dry floor immediately after. That was worth the $60 in my book.
