It just came on tv that there is a Massive steam explosion in Manhatten.
They don't think it is Terriorists
It is not know if anyone is injured
Any NY Disers out there Are You OK!

im not in NY but I get the NY abc channel and ive been watching the news,

ive never seen something like that before.

I hope nobody got hurt to bad and I hope that the brown goo isnt poo.

Is this different from the transformer? It seems odd if this was two different instances????

They are saying now it's a large steam pipe break explosion. It's a bad one but it's not terrorist related. Just an accident. 41st and Lex. but it's affecting a three block area all around. Major traffic and subway disruptions. Just 2 injuries so far. Hope it stays that way. There is a huge hole in the intersection. Stay safe midtowners!

watching it on tv right now - they just said they're afraid pressure may build and blow up somewhere else on another street - and it's up to 3 injured now

Yikes! It's been a scary, crazy day in NYC! We had a huge thunderstorm this morning (I swear it was literally over my apartment - so much rain and thunder and lightning!) and then a little after 6:00, my friend calls me to see if I'm OK, and we turn on the news to see this crazy story with this huge plume of steam... yikes! My roommates and I are all safe, hoping their commute to work tomorrow is all right...

I work on 34th, but waiting to hear from a good friend who works in that area. I bet her office is closed.

This happened right behind my sister's office building. (They closed today, she doesn't know about tomorrow.)

She was a block away and heard the explosion. At first she thought it might be thunder but it lasted too long. She saw the steam cloud and people running. She couldn't comprehend what was wrong. Traffic came to a standstill so she "walked fast" to a different street to catch the cross town bus.

She walks past where this happened every morning but takes a different route for her commute home. She said this has been a work site for a long time and steam is always coming out of the street.

My DD commutes thru Grand Central. She arrived there right after this happened. She noticed people looking up and around but she had 4 minutes to catch the train so she was on the run. Once she was on the train, she overheard someone who got a call asking if she was alright. (No one on the train knew there was a problem.) When DD found out about the explosion, she called me to let me know she was fine.

It's scary knowing how close my sister was to this. My heart goes out to those who were killed or injured.

My DH was working right there in a man hole all day before the explosion. His boss wanted him to stay late but he was really tired and declined and came home. A half hour later the explosion happened!!! He was shaking when he came home. He could've been killed. I really hate that he works in the city. It is always something. He was right there on 9/11 and watched the 2nd plane hit, then he had to work at the site for 3 months. There have been other explosions and he has always just missed being in them! I swear he has an angle looking over him!! I know one person died and there was something like 20 something people injured. I pray they will all be OK.

Although I live in Australia, today this affected me and my workmates... The woman who died worked for the same company that I work for. Today was very sombre in our offices in Australia.... :sad1:
