Stealing from room safe

I will continue to use the safe, it's safer then most of the other ideas I see on here. But as usual folks will let one incident determine their future actions. As someone who has used hotel safes extensively with no issues the odds seem to be on my side that a safe is safer then carrying lots of cash, "attempting" to hide my valuables in my suitcase te...

As for the prepaid credit card, check the fees!!

Seriously? The fees? It cost $4.95 to activate. That's it. I certainly don't see that as a problem

The ones you buy like Vanilla I believe only have the load fee. I know the momentum Card that I have also charges you for each transaction and is why I never use it. They kinda made me get it at the check cashing store. The best thing to do is to read the fine print before you buy. I know there are some cards that only have the reload fee.

If you have your money converted when you come here you could purchase the card when you get here. That way you don't have the debit card fee charge and your money is safe.

Glad we could help. I would hate to see all your hard earned cash gone. It doesn't happen often at Disney but I would hate for you to take the chance. You can get the cards at any drug store like CVS or Walgreens and at grocery stores like Publix, Winn Dixie and I believe Walmart.

I always carry cash, lots of it. But im always careful too. I hate using credit cards! And luckily, all of my mouse keepers so far have been excellent. All my money is always intact in the safe. Using debit would be great BUT im from canada, so the charges would be insane!

Im just glad they caught this woman. Wonder how much money she stole over time. $20 may not seem like a lot, but if you calculate how many rooms she cleans, $20 from each room over time is alot! And someone like me might not even notice the missing $20. I'd probably dismiss it by thinking i miscounted.

Won't that make it hard to convert any left over back? You will have to use the whole card before returning home. Then, if you run out and need more cash you'll feel the need to buy a new "vanilla" card (and pay another fee). Personally, it's not worth the fee for me. This kind of thing happens so rarely that I wouldn't worry about it or take any extra precautions to protect my money in the locked safe.

I was thinking the same thing. But maybe the angle was awkward? At the values the safe is by the sink area, pointed towards the wall. They probably couldnt place the camera discreetly enough in that area.

I agree. I hate vanilla cards. Too much hassle. PLUS if you lose that vanilla card, youre screwed!!

The safe was locked. I believe if she needs more cash she can add to it and not have to buy another card. Yes probably another fee but safer than keeping money around. If there is still money on the card when her trip is over I do believe she can go to an ATM and do a cash advance to get the money out.

People worry way too much about things. We have left laptops, phones, video games, DVD players, coins, and trading pins in our rooms. Cards and cash are in the save. Never once has anything been taking.

Think about how many people stay at Disney properties and how many times have you read about thefts for a locked safe? Bxccah will be perfectly safe keeping her cash locked up instead jumping through a bunch of hoops to get a vanilla card and the paying some company for the pleasure of using her own money.

You have been lucky then. I don't think it is too unreasonable to worry about a lot of cash being kept in the room even if it is in the safe because as we have seen they can be gotten into.

Must say after reading all this hoopla and amateur sleuth stuff, probably the safest place is in the bathroom under the toilet tank... Housekeeping rarely cleans in there, or in the tub, another place that gets overlooked...

Yup, we use the safe, will continue to do so, place a piece of scotch tape over door seam to see if it was entered.... But you all keep tipping housekeeping....
