my kids are 10, 7 and 2.5. They often go to sit down restaurants with is and generally have no problems. But the little is still just 2. If we made a 5 pm reservation, would we avoid " bothering" people if she chatting loudly or playing on an iPad with volume low?

We use to do the same thing when our kids were that age.

Make a reservation, enjoy a nice dinner and family time.
The annoying kids are the one's where the parents make no effort to control them and let them run wild.

You might want to request a booth (next to a wall), this allows the adults to "trap" the kids on the inside.

I don't think anyone at the DLR will object to hearing typical kid noise in a restaurant. Have fun!

Thank you. My older girls are amazing, and the baby for the most part is easy. But I know it's a nice place, and don't want to disturb people eating a nice dinner sans kids with my yahoos chitter chattering. But it is DL, so I was hoping it would be a go!

While kids being kids are perfectly acceptable at all the DLR restaurants, iPad with ANY volume on is completely inappropriate at a table service restaurant, ESPECIALLY at a nicer place like Steakhouse 55

I don't object to the iPad, I do object to having to listen to it while eating a meal. That is just common courtesy.

Id rather hear " touch the triangle, good job" than a kid screaming for no apparent reason while eating or waiting on a meal... But that's just me.

Absolutely...but listening to conversation between a parent and child interacting is different than being forced to listen to Dora the Explorer your whole meal.

That is why I said that the iPad is not the issue, having any volume on in a restaurant is completely inappropriate.

I agree to no iPad sound but of course people talk and have conversations. Either way, enjoy. Steakhouse 55 is delicious.

A pair of sturdy headphones should keep all parties happy. I used to have a bag of tricks I'd use in restaurants. It had a couple of coloring books that were "special" since that was the only time they were used, some pop up books or tactile books, a few small toys like matchbox cars, a sticker chart so he could be rewarded for every so often for sitting and playing nicely, and the prize (usually a lollipop) that he would earn on our way out if he filled his sticker chart. We also carried headphones but that was to listen to music and block out the noise of the restaurant for him since he was easily over stimulated. we didnt have an ipad back then, my kids already 13.

Noisy devices make me think of this scene from Animal House... but that just me :rotfl:

Now that I have a young child I'm very sympathetic to those trying to enjoy a nice dinner while having the kids at the table. I still believe that you should try to be considerate of everyone in the resturant and if you make no effort to keep your kids quiet then that's just rude. I think just any effort is appreciated, have a great time!

Exactly. My kids are never " up" but seated. They visit and entertain themselves with the exception of the 2.5 year old. She's pretty chill most if the time but toddlers are crazy sometimes and you never know when that crazy will show up :rolleyes1

Oh yes the toddler gamble! My son just turned three so most of the time things are great but you never know when the crazy will come!

I understand. I enjoy seeing a well behaved toddler in a restaurant. We take my granddaughter to nice restaurants, but we are also prepared to have someone take her out if there is an issue. I don't appreciate a screaming child at a sit down restaurant, regardless of where we are. Yes, I dealt with one this morning at Carnation. I don't even want to get into that one. A 5 pm seating, with an iPad without sound, and generally chatting (not screaming/screeching) isn't an issue. Hope you all have fun!
