Steak!

My almost 12 year old is FINALLY expanding his palette and enjoying more foods than mac n' cheese, chicken tenders and cereal lol He has found that he really enjoys steak--so I'd like to include a good steak meal that's not fancy but good. Choices are Le Cellier or yachtsman for dinner. I've never been to either but wonder is either better/worse for a non fancy 12 year old boy meal?

We've been to both a couple of times. Both are signature but not fancy. Both have excellent steak options.
Have you ever tried a Japanese steakhouse (i.e. Teppan Edo)? My boys took to that food at a very young age b/c of the show and that expanded their palate for steak, seafood, vegetables...and it's fun.

We like both...I have an 18 year old that plans to eat steak for every meal while in The World.

If I had to pick one and money was not an option, I'd go to Yachtsman though. We loved the whole meal there...it was probably our favorite form our 2015 Christmas trip (and we were there for 16 days with the deluxe dining plan so that's saying something!). We thought there were more options, more basic options (not on a bed of risotto for example), and we have yet to have a long wait to be seated.

At LeCellier, we seem to have a wait most of the time. There seem to be less options on the menu. And while it is good, it never seems to live up to the signature standing to us. It is the second to the last signature we will book (last being Brown Derby).

I would choose Le Celllier, never had a bad meal or service there. Since it changed to signature, it has mysteriously become a bad restaurant in a lot of peoples eyes. We have eaten at Yachtsman 3 times and everything tasted like a salt lick each time we have gone. Many people love Yachtsman however so it cant be all that bad.

The steak at Flying Fish is very good as well. If you arent on the dining plan you can also look at Shulas. In my opinion that is the best steak on property. Both of these are close to Yachtsman.

Yachtsman was always an absolute must until they dropped the hangar steak from the menu. We still go, and it's still a great meal, I think still better than Le Cellier, but the margin is closer now.

If you go to Yachtsman, order the boy the charcuterie board, withhold the placard explaining each item and offer a prize for trying a bite of everything. Then let him know he just ate the thyroid gland of a goat (or whatever delicious tidbit of offal). Ah... good fun.

The steak at the Yachtsman is better than that at Le Cellier, & it's a nicer dining experience, too (tables are much less cramped together). So Inrecommend the Yachtsman. My son loved it.

I agree with this. The filet i had at Teppan Edo was actually quite good. My son and I love the food here, and the show is a nice bonus.

ha ha. Yep! Same here! This place isnt worth the prices they charge. Steak wasn't great in my experience.

I've never been to Yachtsman, but Le Cellier is one of my most favorite places to eat. Even if Yachtsman was better, my choice is to always stay in the parks unless the restaurant is at my resort. It just takes too much time to get to the other resorts just to eat. But Le Cellier is super delicious.

Minor update---Yachtsman was deemed 'too fancy' bc of the dress code and so far I can only get Le Cellier for lunch which I'm not sure about. I'm going to take a look at the menus at the places we have adrs and see if there are any steaks on there.

Keep checking. When do you go? I didn't have any trouble finding one 3ish months out for the day and time I wanted. The lunch and dinner menus are pretty much the same so having a big lunch and snacking for dinner was something we did often!

The restaurants that don't specialize in steak but still serve steak... they can be hit or miss with quality. Sci-Fi comes to mind. I had one good one, and one really mediocre (at best) one there. I wouldn't order it again- not worth taking a chance on.

Is he going to be ok with the sauces and sides at either of these places, not that you can't customize them or ask them to leave stuff off.

At Shula's almost all steaks and sides (except steak mary anne) are a la carte.

It's also not as fancy or uptight as it looks. It's just a bunch of dark wood and white tablecloths. It also has some fantastic servers who are extremely low key and humorous.

They also bring out the steaks and the steak menu on a cart to your table the steak menu is printed on a Miami dolphins themed football and the whole place has some football pics hung somewhat tastefully throughout the restaurant, which might be fun if he's into football.

I've been able to eat at Shula's pretty cheap (relatively) by splitting the larger steaks like the 24oz porterhouse and cowboy ribeye (which they are totally fine with), which could be an opportunistic move for you if he won't finish a full steak.

The sides are sized to share between two people as well so you might only need to get 2 steaks and 2 or 3 sides for everyone.

Having eaten at Shula's and the two you're considering, I've had better experiences in both food and service at Shula's having visited five times than having LeCellier twice and Yachtsman once.

Maybe think about Monsieur Paul? Or is that more fancy than you want for this particular meal?

I really loved my filet at Narcoosses one of the most tender steaks I've had.
