Steak Knife Permitted?

So I'm not sure which forum this belongs in... please feel free to move if another is more appropriate.

This is a bit of an odd question. DH has had a lot of dental work and until he can get his dental implant can't chew much. He's been craving a turkey leg since two trips ago since the cart ran out and shut down when we were there on our last trip. We are taking carry on luggage so can't bring anything but he said he wants to buy a steak knife at walmart so he can find a table to sit down at and cut up his turkey leg meat into itty bitty pieces so he can have it.

My thoughts are that security would not allow him to bring it in when they search bags? but I'm not certain. I'd hate for him to not be able to enjoy anything other than mushy food because he can't cut things up when we're not in TS locations.

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on this one? I know it's a wacky question

Unfortunately I doubt DH will be allowed to bring a sharp knife of any kind into the parks. Sorry, but security will almost certainly confiscate the knife.

There may be a way to have it cut for you, but there is zero chance you will be able to carry a knife of any kind into the Park.

Realistically, if he wanted to bring it in that badly---I doubt he'd have a problem, just depends on if he wants to feel guilty or "sneaky" about it. If you don't have a bag to get checked at the gates, you can walk in with pretty much whatever you want in your pocket. If he didn't mind having a steak knife in there, he'd more than likely be able to carry it in.

That being said, I don't recommend doing this. Even though you probably can "get away" with it, it's probably not worth a) having to carry a knife in your pocket (I can only imagine how uncomfortable that would be) and b) having to worry about the "what if" factor if for some reason park security did see him with it.

I'm sure it won't be as pretty or easily done, but the plastic knives you get at any counter-service restaurant should be plenty sharp enough to get the meat of a turkey leg off a bone. I've cut myself with one before while slicing an orange and if it can cut me, I'm sure it can cut some turkey!

The plastic knives at the various food centers in the MK, like Pecos Bills, seem to me, very good at cutting just about everything.....very serrated and does the job for us cutting fruits, and sandwiches....

As for bringing a knife...doubt it....but I've carried a pocket knife my whole life and never had any problems...it's in my pocket.....I don't fly so no problem there for me....have used it many a time in the parks on apples...

Do they allow people to bring pocketknives into the park? I don't know the answer to this - but I do know that my husband has a pocket knife where the blade is more close to a steak knife than a small traditional pocket knife blade. He has in fact used it as a steak knife on more than one occasion

Anyway, if they do allow this, this would probably be the easiest way to do it.

No, not if security sees it. I watched at Disneyland this summer as the man ahead of me in line was told either to walk his pocket knife back to his hotel room or security would dispose of it for him.

This was my experience too..The man in front of me had to bring it back to his resort, put it in his car or let security take it.They also stopped a woman with nail scissors.

On the Disney FAQ, among the specifically listed items that cannot be brought into the park are "weapons of any kind." As most all other posters have said, it is unlikely that they would knowingly let you bring a knife into the park.

However, I have used one of the little serrated plastic knives available at most CS locations to cut up a turkey leg. It's a little messy, but does the job pretty well. I would use one of those.

If he wants it that badly, I would suggest you get a leg "to go" which is what we did a few years ago for a friend. We even brought it all the way back to Georgia with us. We took a zipper bag with us, asked the Cast Member to double wrap it for us, put the leg into the zipper bag, then into a plastic grocery bag and brought it back to the room where we stored it in our cooler. Then your husband can enjoy wherever he wants with whatever utensils he wants.

But yeah, taking in a steak knife is not going to be allowed.

We cut up a turkey leg to share just for neatness! Take a few plastic knives and forks from your resort food court. If you break a knife you have a spare, though I find one is adequate.

Thank you for the replies everyone. We've broken the plastic ones in the past on things not so tough that's why I was asking. Another thing i wondered was if they'd let him use one from a TS place but I'm not sure how we'd go about asking. Most days we will have one TS meal so it's not as if he'll starve but I'd obviously like to find a way to have the thing he's been wanting most.

Getting it to go at the end of the day might end up being the best option... as long as they don't run out on us again

They sell plastic, disposable, serrated, steak knives. I got a some a couple of years ago at Target for a party and they worked great. One of those wrapped in cardboard (so it doesn't cut him) put in a pocket should get in just fine. And if they find it he can explain what its for and if they still say no go - well it was disposable anyway.
