Steak and shake

Very excited! This will most likely be our first meal upon arrival! Im kida thinking its like a johnny rockets? Am i correct? I LOVE johnny rockets! Im sad they dont sing anymore though (atleast the one near me :sad2:)

Yes, it is jut like Johnny Rocket's. I've only been to JR once at a mall in Virginia with my DD so I don't know about the singing, but the food was the same.

I agree with all of the positive reviews. We stumbled upon it last trip and spent roughly $35 total for a family of 6. The Adult meals for $4 is more than enough food for a reasonable lunch! Food was good to boot if you like 50's diner type of food.

We have one on town and never had a problem there. Love the food and the prices. If you get a shake ask them to put it in a to go cup that way if you are not finished you can take it with you.
They have a great breakfast menu too.

The one on 535 is easy to get to. Take Hotel Plaza Blvd. (aka the road that DTD is on) to 535 make a left stay in the outside lane. Steak and Shake is just passed the 2nd red light on 535 and is on the right side of the road. It is also by a Winn Dixie market so if you need grocery items.

Oh man I wish I hadn't come across this thread :rotfl: Ever since I saw it - I've been planning the drive down and thinking about a patty melt and shake....we usually stop at one around Gainsville, FL.....can't wait....- of course I'll have to diet extra now so I won't feel so guilty....:yay:

We live in the area where the very first Steak N Shake was opened. It is a local favorite and people who move away always make a point of eating there when they return for a visit. They are known for their oblong shaped pickles, the founder wanted a bite of pickle with each bite of the hamburger. Very very good! I had the new key lime pie milkshake yesterday and it was delicious.

Similar. I'm surprised at all the hoopla. It's just a very inexpensive hamburger place really.

I'm a little surprised also. Maybe it is just not a Texas thing. We just recently got one here and it was the most bland overpriced (for what it is) place we have been to in years. Sorry, just my opinion. Just to clarify, not overpriced, just overpriced for what it is. The shakes were okay but about a week later my kids got a shake at a fast food place that even they said was better. Sorry. Hope to not get flamed or yelled at here but I would not be totally against going back but I would also not go out of my way for this.

Not sure anyone has mentioned it - it is very fast-food like, very greasy - but in that case, very yummy if you like that sort of thing!!! LoL

Milk shakes and fries are awesome, and personally I love their grilled cheese. We have lots in the mid-west (we live in the St. Louis area) so go about once every month or two. We usually get out of there with two adults meals and two kids meals for around $20 with coupons. Kids eat free on the weekends (at least around here) but only one free kid meal for every $9 spent, so we usually only end up getting one free kid meal.

Also, make sure you ask for the steak-n-shake paper hats that the kitchen staff wears! They will give them to you for free and my kids love 'em. They also usually have paper-cars (classic 50's cars) for the kids to make and play with.

Greasy, yes, but cheap and fun.... it's worth a try!

There may be a couple of things going on.

If people don't have one near where they live, it could be the novelty factor. Kind of like my obsession with going to Bob Evans for breakfast when I'm at WDW. I grew up with them, but don't have them near me now in AZ, so I have to go whenever I can. Others may go to Bob Evans and say "what's the big deal?"

Or, as many on this thread have said, they may have good burgers and shakes, at a very low price. Especially when compared to WDW food. $12 for a a TS burger? Really? How much at Steak n Shake?

I love going to Culvers for a butter burger and custard now that they're here in Phoenix. We go about once a week. I just think they're so good. And a good value. Others may think it's not all that but I like it.

Ok Im officially starving!!!!!! Cant wait! just one more week until vacation eating begins! SOOOOO excited!

Agreed. It's fast food to me. Not bad, but definitely not a place I'm going out of my way for.
