Ok, do we really have to LOOK UP all the 9 digit zip codes?!

If I type in 12345 it comes up 00001-2345, like it is looking for the extra 4 digits!!

Is there a way around this, I emailed but I wanted to do this tonight since I work 7 am-9 pm tomorrow.

THanks!!!

I don't remember having to put the 9 digit zip, just the standard 5.

I just did my STD's this weekend. I had to do it at work because I don't have Excel at home but I know what your talking about. Of course I'm at home now and can't check for you....I think I right clicked in the box and it said "format" or something along that line. It's trying to add the 4 digit extension that goes after a zip code; just change it from "zip +4" to zipcode. Hope that's it...

I tried finishing mine up tonight and I have one problem - Excel keeps making my zips short if they start with a 0. Like if I type in my zip code 04736, it inputs 4736. Or Worcester MA 01602 to 1602. But it doesn't do this with other zips that start with any other number but 0. :confused3

For those having trouble with it trying to add or remove numbers , the easiest thing to do is select the entire column and change its format to text. I did it this way and it made is a LOT easier to deal with. Consider most of the zips in my area start with 0.
:thumbsup2

I was having the same problem with mine. I highlighted the column and right above that in the tool bar it will say "Special" in a drop down menu. Click that arrow and then go down to "More Number Formats." This will open up a new box and under "Type" select Zip Code (Zip Code + 4 will be highlighted). HTH!

Okay I work with excel and zip codes for a living, so hopefully I can help a bit.

If it's transfoming them into 9 digits - highlight the column - go to Format - Cells - Number Tab - Special - and the make sure Zip Code is highlighted not Zip Code + 4.

Meg Kate - The same thing should work for you if not - put a ' before the 0 so '01234 - the ' will disappear - but the 0 will stay - you're tricking it into thinking it's text instead of a number that way without changing the entire column - which would become a problem if you're doing a mail merge into Word.

HTH. (Or hope at least that I didn't confuse anyone)

LOL Where were you guys when I had to do this! I spent two afternoons going to www.usps.com and entering in EACH of my guests addresses to get their +4. What a huge pain the you know what!

Thank you girls so much!!! I reformatted the cells and saved myself a ton of time. I appreciate your help so much. :)
