Staying w/ DVC friends, transportation?

Friends have invited us to go to WDW and stay w/ them when they use their points later this year. Since the room will be in their name, will we be able to use the magical express for transportation? I guess I have the same question about magic bands. Thanks! We have never stayed with friends before, so I am wondering how all of the 'extras' work.

Anyone can use Disney transportation; there's no "check point" for that. You will have your own magic bands linked to your ticket info. Are you staying in the same villa as your friends or are you in two different rooms?

You would have to be listed on the reservation in order to use Magical Express and to get Magic Bands. (Well, to get the Magic Bands for free - you can always buy them, but they're not necessary.)

Magical Express is different from standard Disney transportation. You do need a reservation to board. Have your friends call DME & provide your flight info. If you're registered guests, you will be allowed to use it, even though you're not flying in with them.

Thanks! We will be staying in the villa with them, but traveling separately

They have to make your mde reservation and they will get sent your luggage tags
For us this has created an issue in the past as half our party was living 1500 miles from the other half
The issue ended up that we didn't get the mde packet in time to ship half the stuff out so no mde tickets or luggage tags for those that arrived first this was pre magic band days
So we had to turn in luggage tags and showed them a copy of the mde tickets that were emailed with the reservation number
