Hello everyone,

I am in the process of booking a long weekend to Disney. I was going to do the Hard Rock but there is no availability. Too bad now we "HAVE" to try yet another Disney Resort:smooth: . Isn't that awful....heehee.
Anyway we have decided on PO but which side? I'm not trying to start a debate and I know everyone has an opinion. Right now I would take any & all information you could give me as I have never seen this resort before other than pictures.
Your faves & room numbers and why you liked it.....

Thanks for all your help,

Lisa & Mike,

My fiance' and I stayed at Port Oleans French Quarter resort over the 4th of July week and I'll tell you what we liked about it.

The fact that POFQ is the smallest resort in WDW made it that more appealing to us. The cozy, intimate quite atmisphere made for a relaxing vacation. There is a pool but we never made it there, although we did walk by and there was a small crowd of families but it wasn't loud or rowdy.
The food court is a lifesaver! There are a few counters that stay open till 11pm and we were able to get drinks and snacks after a long day in the parks. The breakfast menu is excellent!!
Unless you request a king bed, you will end up with 2 double beds, that's what happened to us! (They told us a king bed would cost more.)
They have a boat that takes you to Downtown Disney, but it rained while we were there so we took the bus. (We took the boat one day and it took 30 mins. to get to DD! That includes waiting time while others board.)

I like PO-FQ better because it's smaller and I like the feel of the "Big Easy"!:D

You're right-everyone has an opinion. DH and I have stayed at both PO-FQ and POR about 3 times each and we still can't decide which is better! I think he gives the slight edge to PO-FQ (prefers the theming) and I give a slight edge to POR (prefer the Food Court, but only a little). I guess we'll just have to keep going 10 or 20 more times til we decide! In June we stayed at OKW, and yet we still visited POR and PO-FQ, trying to decide which is better.

Thanks disnee25,Julesmom, & Simba's Mom for your honesty.
It all sounds like a wonderful resort and I hope we have the time to enjoy it all. I just got off the phone and booked PoFq. I asked for bldg 90 (just in case anyone has insight in this bldg) I just figured it was centrally located so it should be fine.

I appreciate you all taking time to help out a fellow Dis'er.

Thanks a Bunch,

We've stayed at PO-FQ three time and will be there again late October. I like being able to take the boat to DD and the food court is a plus. My DD has stayed at the POR once and she was very pleased with that also, but I like the intimacy of PO-FQ.

Another vote for FQ. We have stayed at both but prefer FQ. Since the food court has been redone I am sure we will enjoy it even more. It is suppose to be similar to Riverside's from the posts I've seen.

We like to stay in bldg 5 with the courtyard view (not pool or waterview). It is close to everything as it is right in the middle of the resort. Bldg. 4 is also very close to the bus stop and food court. Either bldg. are really nice. I don't think there is a bad location.

The hot tub is also nice. Has never really been crowded when we were there. Be sure to take time to walk the river path to Riverside. It is usually very nice. And, in the early evening you will see ducks and rabbits. Just a pleasant stroll.

Another plus is the boat to DTD. It is nice and gives you a break before you hit the "hurry" of DTD. Keep in mind they get full and if it is busy you may have to wait for a boat or two. Not the mode of transportation if you are in a hurry.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the insight. It is nice to have some ideas before going from all you veterans. I thought I booked bldg. 90 . To be honest I couldn't see the map very well.
I chose it because it was smack dab in the middle of the place so I figured we would get to enjoy both pools.

Was this a mistake? Is it too far away? Anyone have any info on this?
Thanks Again,

I don't think PO-FQ has a building 90. Its buildings are single digit numbers from 1-7, I think. I think buildings 5 and 2 are on each side of the pool, buildings 3 & 4 are closest to the parking lot on each side of the main building, and building 1 overlooks the water. I'm going by memory here, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Our favorite was always building 4.

Thanks Again Simba's Mom. I knew it didn't look right. I couldn't even see it . I think I should call back and fix the request. Are both pools within walking distance? Or do they have an internal bus that you can get from one pool to the other.
I ask because I think the girls would like the both of them so we will try them out.

MAC3 - don't get stressed. You can't get a bad building in POFQ. On our last trip, we were in building 1, on the outskirts. It still took us only about 3 minutes to get to the food court.

POFQ is a great place. You'll love it!

There are several pools, I think 6 or so, at POR. You can either walk the path by the river -- will take about 10-12 minutes or you can catch any bus that is going to Riverside (POFQ is the first bus stop and then it goes over to Riverside). Getting back to FQ is a bit harder. Someone said that they have a shuttle. A couple years ago, in the evenings when Boatwrights was open they had a shuttle boat between the two. Things have changed a bit so I'm not sure.

At Riverside there is Old Man Island which is the main pool. The slide there is faster than at FQ. They also have several "quiet" pools which aren't themed and simply swimming pools. I think someone mentioned to check out the fishing at Old Man Island, also. It is fun and not too expensive.

As far as buildings, our favorites are bldg. 5 and bldg. 4. Bldg 5 has two waterviews...one is of the pool and the other is of the river. The inside of bldg. 5 - the standard view rooms face a courtyard area. Bldg. 4 is also nice. It is closest to the ood court and parking lot. Bldg. 5 is closest to the pool and very close to the food court (depending on what end you are at).

This resort is small (1/2 the size of Riverside) and I don't think there really is a bad location. Only takes about 7-8 minutes to get anywhere at the resort ... much quicker if you have little ones that like to run.:D

I would definitely call and revise the request. Also, if you want a ground floor room or top floor room you can also request that. Keep in mind that they are only requests, though, and not guaranteed. However, they have always tried to give us everything we wanted. And, if you don't like where you are you can request to be moved the next day or as soon as a room opens where you want to be. Never be afraid to request this.

You will really like this resort, I think. It is very nice.

Thanks Everyone! Great detail dcedwards. Much appreciated!
I Love the Dis board you can always find the answers to your questions. You all are the best!

If you are booked in building 90 and see 2 pools that is POR not POFQ. POFQ doesn't have that many buildings and only 1 pool.

So, if you really intended to book at POFQ, you should call back and change your reservation..sounds like they midunderstood what hotel you wanted. POFQ only has 7 buildings (I think - maybe 8 or 9), definitely not 90!
