On the 3 night wonder, do any of you folks ever skip Nassau? From things I've read, it doesn't sound that great. Can you just go for a short while, or skip it altogether? Thanks for your help!

The two time we sailed and stoped in Nassau we only spent about an hour or two on the island. We did the short walk around the stores....baught some souvies some liquor and a couple of watches. The is an internet cafe their also. Then we returned to the ship and enjoyed the sun and the beautiful view of the island.

We have done 33 Disney cruises (29 of them to Nassau), and after the first couple of times we stopped disembarking. Instead, we pretend that it's a day at sea and enjoy the absence of crowds and some swimming time, Rainforest time, or relaxation on the verandah. Much better than hearing, "Braid your hair, pretty lady?" or "Want to buy some Cuban cigars?" for the millionth time.

We have been on 3 Wonder cruises (4-night) and always got off the ship in Nassau to go over to the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island. Well worth seeing. Also, the very first cruise we walked around the town and visited the original Straw Market, which was huge. It burned to the ground a couple of years ago and the one they have now is only a shadow of the original.

We enjoy watching and listening to the "braid ladies". We usually spend a little while on a bench in the town square just at the end of the dock area to absorb some local flavor and watch the carriages and taxi cabs come and go.

Have a wonderful time whatever you decide.

On our first cruise, which was not Disney, we got off at Nassau. We took a carriage ride(total waste of time, smelly horse, almost got killed by our driver) and did a little browsing in the shops(didnt have much money to buy a lot). We were not impressed at all. So on our second visit to Nassua on DCL, we remained on the ship for that day. It was great. On our last visit we got off the ship only to phone our kids at home and we were unable to find a phone that would connect. While looking for a phone we stopped in at one store which my nieces had mentioned they liked, bought them a souvenier, then returned to the ship. Unless I had a good reason, I wouldnt get off at Nassau again. On the other hand, I think if you havent been there, you should definitely take at least a little visit to check it out for youself. :D Everyone has diffent likes and dislikes.

True confession: I've never set foot in Nassau. :) I've probably been there 4-6 times on different cruises and have never had a desire to go ashore. I prefer the quiet of the pools and the spa.

Those that DO go ashore certainly can have fun, I just choose on a shorter cruise to stay and enjoy the ship. :)

We are taking our first cruise July 31 and will stop at Nassau. We have never been there and thought about taking a cab over to Atlantis casino. Our DD, age 18, would like to try her hand with the slots for a little while. Then we would like to see some of the historic sites in Nassau and do a little shopping. DD, again wants to bring Hard Rock Cafe or Senor Frog shirts home for some friends. How long do you think we should plan for this? I was thinking 3-4 hours. Thanks!

Went once (not DCL) & no desire to go back. We did try getting off the ship our first Magic cruise just to walk the docks & the people at the dock were just as 'annoying'.
We stay on now & do the things listed above plus play volleyball, do the pool activities, etc., etc.
