Staying on ship while in port

We are thinking of staying on the Dream while it's in port in Nassau and skipping the excursions in order to save money and enjoy the quiet on the ship. Anyone know what goes on on the Dream during port time? I know the pools and restaurants stay open, but do the shows and movies run while the ship is docked in port? Are there character greets during this time as well?

You can check past Navigators here: http://disneycruiselineblog.com/personal-navigators/ for an idea of what activities are available during a port day.

Many folks (repeat cruisers) have had enough of Nassau and just stay on board when stopping there. We just treat it as a "steel beach" day in which we lay around the pool. We might also book a spa service that day.

We stayed on board last week, on the Dream. Ship was docked super early. We woke up at 7 and we were at the dock. We loved our day on board alone. No kidding it was a ghost town. Empty pools, no lines on the aquaduck, no crowds at cabanas for lunch, kids clubs were empty. There were still movies playing, but we didn't do much that day other than relax and do nothing. It was a great day. We loved it. So much more than the day before at sea.

There are a lot of activities going on, some movies, classes, the spa is open as well. Everything will be in the Personal Navigator. DH and I stayed on board in Nassau and never regretted our decision. We've been super busy all day!

For us, Nassau day was crowded. The pools were full and it was a 30 min wait for the aquaduck.t

Nassau day usually has a fair amount of people stay on board and Disney do organize more activities on Nassau stops than most other port stops.

We always stay on board that day. Drop off our DD at the nursery right after breakfast and then spend some time at the adult pool until around 1. We pick up our DD at the nursery and she goes down for a nap while one of us hits the spa.

We dont feel like we are missing anything by not going ashore and value the adult time together much more.

Good luck.

Short (ish) line for the Aqua Dunk and no worries about people saving chairs around the pool (for the most part). My wife and I did this on our January cruise, we disembarked and walked out of the security gates, stood there for about 15 seconds and then went back on board. It made for a very relaxing day where we just soaked up the ship activities.

we have never been off the ship in Nassau. Many people stay on so you get a little lighter crowd on deck but as you get into the early afternoon, all those people come back again.

I was on the Dream last week and the ship on Nassau day was packed. Officer told me only 600 people went shore. I believe it. But there was a full day of activities and events to attend.

On our first Disney cruise, our kids were 4 & 2. My husband & I had already cruised before & there was nothing we were dying to see. So....we stayed onboard at every port besides CC! Those were our favorite days I'm sorry I can't remember what we did exactly, but I knew we were never bored. I hope you enjoy your cruise.

10 Disney Cruises and 5 other-than-DCL cruise and for the first time ever I did not get off the ship at a port of call. Nassau just does not have much to offer IMO.
So we stayed on the ship and enjoyed a movie, relaxed by the pool, caught some rays, drank some beers, rode the aquaduck, place some trivia games and just relaxed.
