We are going to Orlando in July and staying in a condo. We plan on visiting both IOA and US over two days. We were going to purchase the express passes and they are 49.99 for each day which is 300.00 for the two days. It seems it might be worth it to book a hotel on Universal property for one night. I found one for 269.00. Apparently when you stay on property for one night you get the express passes for two days (day of check in and check out). Plus you get an hour early to Harry Potter.

Am i missing something here or does this make sense?

It makes sense. Plus, resort guests get unlimited Express, whereas the purchased Express pass is good for only once per attraction.

that is a good reason to book one night on site.

free, unlimited access to the express lines.......

your hotel key card is valid on check out day up to the time the parks close.

Personally, I'd book the room. It does come out better pricewise AND you can do your fave rides over and over again with no limit! (We LOVED this!)
As an added bonus, you might have some time left during those two days to enjoy the pools which are really nice. (And I believe pool hopping is encouraged at Universal :thumbsup2).

don;t forget to check for specials like AAA and AP discounts too

When I stayed at Royal Pacific I booked through Travelocity with a 10% discount. This was February though, so I'm not sure about July...doesn't hurt to look though.

MY SiL's family has a vacation home in Florida but booked the least expensive room at the RPR for one night. They didn't even sleep there! They prefer the extra space at the house. But they used the room as place to take a break, use the restroom and cool off on the first day there, when the park was open late. It didn't come out much more expensive than the express passes they wanted.
