Staying on property, but don't need tickets

My husband is doing the WDW Marathon in January and we usually don't stay on property, but thought we might for a few days this time. We are a military family, so we get discounted tickets separately. Does anyone know or have experience with any packages for staying at resort hotels without having to purchase tickets through Disney, what about magic bands being able to link with our tickets??

You can book a room only.
Or if you want the dining plan you could book a ticketless package but you have to call and specifically ask about it.
Tickets are linked to MDE.
Magic bands are linked to MDE.
If they are both linked then you can use the magic band to access your tickets.

Yes - very easy. We booked room only, bought tickets elsewhere like we have always done, and linked them onto our account. I will say it was the first time doing that and I was a bit nervous, but it was simple! Our magic bands came in the mail about 3 weeks prior to our trip and the first time we used them, we had no trouble at all. Enjoy!!!

We only travel on room only reservations as they can be cancelled up to 5 days out for full refund. Magic bands will arice at least 2 weeks before your trip but often more. Magic bands are just a thing that reads your MDE so if you tickets are linkento the individuals MDE it will work fine. Just make sure everything is linked right so the accounts on the hotels should be the same as your MDE account. If you only have 1 adult account and all others are "managed" accounts you may want to call IT to make sure all the managed accounts are right. It takes them no time at all to fix those.
