I'm thinking about going to Florida for 4 days. I want to go back to Discovery Cove, do Sea World, and maybe 1 day of Disney world. I'd like to stay at a disney value resort. Is it unheard of to stay at a disney resort and not go to the parks? Any thoughts or input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm thinking of doing this in August.

I say go for it.Personally I wouldn't give it a second thought. You don't have to go into one of the parks to discover the Disney Magic its everywhere. pixiedust:

Out of curiosity if you're not doing Disney why select a Value Hotel? I'd think you could get even more for that money (closer to your destinations) off site. I could see a Mod or Deluxe for theming, etc. but Values for an adult are a room and a pool.

We are doing the exact thing in a few weeks at the GF and CR. We are doind DC, and hanging out at the pool. Only one and a half days at MK. MK is the only disney park we are going to. And the half day is because we want to take in the pirates and princess party otherwise it would only be one day. I say go for it!

I think that sounds like a fun idea...though I know that if I did it, I wouldn't have the will power to skip the parks!

Another suggestion would be to check out a resort in Celebration (Disney owned town).

I agree with other posters--go for it! We always try to plan non-park days during our trips. It is nice to be out and about and then come home to the world, and then there is that great feeling when you wake up and all about you is Disney! Have fun!

If you are doing other things in the area, then sure, it makes sense to me to stay at a WDW resort.

What I can't fathom, for the life of me, is people flying in from 1,000 miles away with the plan to stay at a WDW resort and spend all of their time at that resort and not go to any parks or other local attractions. To THOSE people, I say you've gotta open your eyes to discover other things ... there are many wonderful resorts in just the USA where you can spend a wonderful time.

To me, flying to Orlando for the sole purpose of staying at a WDW resort (with no outside touring) would be like flying to Idaho for the sole purpose of eating carrots rather than potatoes.

If I were to stay at a Disney resort is would extremly hard to not go to a disney park. Seeing all the detail and driving through everything would make me nuts to the point where i'd have to go to some of the parks.

If you are planning on going to a Disney park then I woukld definetly do it.

Sounds ok to me.......there are many ways to experiance the Disney magic, one of those is just staying on site. I would suggest Pop Century if you are wanting to go with a value. We stayed there a few years ago and it is great.

I've done it. Got a great rate during the summer and we just hung out and used the pools and I visited my friend who lives in Altamonte Springs. We even asked for late check out and was granted. So I say go for it.

No I dont think it is. We are going to OKW in April and the only park time we are planning on is our meals. This is our "lets go and hang by the pool and go to the spa" trip

Never done it before so it should be fun!

We kinda do this every year. We stay for 6 days and only hit 2 parks. We love to vacation this way. We explore resorts, swim, eat, swim, eat, swim, nap, eat. We come home from Disney refreshed.

I see NOTHING wrong with going to WDW and not doing the parks. Enjoy your trip. :goodvibes

because I am basically a lazy person like the resort closer to what I am doing.

so in your case would pick a hotel near SW.

but yes been to OKW and didn't go to the parks - when outlet shopping!!!!:lovestruc - and I hate to shop.

We're flying over 4,500 miles each way and plan to spend a month in Orlando. We come every year and stay for about the same amount of time and this year we're giving the Disney parks a miss but we're still planning to spend time on site. Our last 5 nights are at the BCV and all we want to do there is relax and fully enjoy the facilities.

We go to OKW 2-3 times per year, since we own there.

Haven't been to the parks on over six years, though.

We go to OKW to relax and regroup. DD's love the pools, Hank's, Community Hall and more.

Just our take............

I say go for it!!!

We're heading to Orlando next month and are staying at POR for 6 nights. We're doing two park days, that's all. We're visiting Discovery Cove, Busch Gardens, a day at the beach (weather permitting) and 2 park days (Magic Kingdom and Epcot).

I looked at other hotels in the Orland area - close to Sea World, International Drive, etc. But there is comfort in knowing that we will be staying at a Disney Hotel so there is no question about quality and a certain level of service that you get at a Disney hotel that you may or may not get at another hotel.

Enjoy!!!

I think it would be great! Definietly not something our kids would let us get away with, but For an adults only trip, I'd love to just relax at the resort. I'm not sure that I'd do that at a value though, I think the theming of a Mod. would be more relaxing for not a whole lot more $$$

I'm new to the disney world thing. I went in March of 07 and stayed at All Star music. Now, I just can't wait to get back. Just being there is amazing. What is Celebration. Can you tell me more. Where else would you suggest to stay. Something value like is what I'm shooting for. I'm a poor college student. Thank you for all the input. Keep it coming!
