staying offsite- wish to visit on site resorts

We will be staying off-site for a few days while visiting Disney. I was wondering how you go about visiting the onsite resorts to eat or shop in the shopping areas? We have a car so I was wondering if there is visitor parking at each resort and if you have to pay a parking fee. Any info would be helpful!!

Yes, you can park for free at the resorts. The parking lot is for both guests and visitors. The guard will give you a 3 hour pass so you can shop or eat.

Depending on when you are going and what resort you are visiting, the guard MAY not let you in (e.g. July 4 at an MK resort)

We have visited and toured every single WDW resort, some many times for the restaurants. If you want to eat in one of the resort restaurants be sure to make a PS. All resorts, except for the Value resorts have guarded gates. When you pull up to the gate, just tell them that you have a PS for (whatever restaurant). Depending on the time of year, and the resort, they MAY ask for your PS number. I have only gotten a 3 hr. parking pass at monorail resorts. I was never given a time limit at any of the moderates.

I always say I want to visit the gift shop and never had any problems. Guard usually jokes am I going to spend money. At the popular Deluxe resorts where people "abuse" the parking you may receive a 3 hour parking pass or there may be a different parking lot to use if you are not a resort guest.
