staying offsite but visiting disney hotels

Just wondering if anyone has any tips about visiting Disney hotels while staying offsite, such as nice things to do etc. We plan to have a character breakfast in one of the hotels and were wondering if there was anything people have discovered which was really fun or cheap!

I think it would be really nice to visit Animal Kingdom Lodge and check out the animals and surroundings. Or what about taking the monorail around the 3 monorail resorts and wandering about those? There is Chef Mickeys character meals at the Contemporary.

Fort Wilderness has a petting zoo too.

You can visit all the shops too

Walk around the Boardwalk and you can visit the Boardwalk, Y & B and S & D

hi, we had a character breakfast at 1900 park fare at the grand floridian, nearest hotel to Mk, just one stop on the monorail, the breakfast was the best we had while in orlando and, the hotel was amazing, really luxurious, well worth seeing even without the breakfast. Definately on my itinerary when our lottery numbers come up! concierge then of course!

Take the boat from Contemporary to Fort Wilderness. Visit the Petting Farm. Walk the nature trail along the lake shore, and return then back to Wilderness Lodge by the jogging trail.

No cost at all.

I must agree with the Petting Zoo.... One of the best kept secrets! And at no charge, its a great way to spend a couple of hours.....

Thanks to everyone for their replies! I must say we do like the idea of going to Fort Wilderness and having a look around. the petting zoo sounds just right for DD so will look into that a bit more!
