I can't seem to find a hotel (that is decent) that makes it worth it to stay off-site. We will be there for 8 nights. June 8-16

Any ideas?

Check out Travelzoo.com. They have the Doubletree Castle for $59, the Nick Hotel for $99 with a $20 resort credit (thru June 13), the Regal Sun Resort for $65, and Bahama Bay Resort 2 Bedroom from $69.

There are a lot of very nice hotels and resorts with excellent deals close to WDW. If you will have your own vehicle you will be able to get to & from the parks much faster than staying onsite and using WDW transportation. You also have many more dining options for significantly less money.

We enjoy staying on and offsite - but there is no right or wrong answer on this one. It's whatever works for you and your family. Good luck! :goodvibes

www.travelzoo.com

see if that can't help you decide.

it is generally the houses not hotels that gets people excited and the savings can be there - you have to do your home work.

www.vrbo.com

also include added expenses

rental car
parking at WDW - $14 a day (once you pay this you can returned and go to different parks as much as you want in one day)

Are you comparing to a Disney Value? If so, it's very hard to beat the bottom-line price of the Value, because it also includes parking ($14/day) and---if you are flying---you don't need a rental car.

I generally don't think of offsite as the absolute cheapest way to go. Instead, I think of it as a way to spend a very small amount of extra money, but to get a much better place to stay.

I depends if you want to spend 8 nights in a 2 bedroom with a kitchen at Wyndham Bonnet Creek, or 8 nights in a tiny room on Disney property. The price will be close.

We are trying to do this vacation cheaply and I am not finding much. I did find a place on vrbo.com that will give it to me for $599 for the week.

country inn & suites Buena Vista (near DTD) has an advance purchase rate of only $59 for a regular room.

Priceline is also another good option for saving money. I know many people stay away from Priceline but with the right research you can save quite a bit in my experience.

There a site, TripDucky.com, that can help you research what you can bid for off site hotels and they even have some good tutorials on how the whole process works.

I just looked at their Winning Bids Calendar for the dates you are staying and found the following:

Disney Maingate - Celebration Zone:
6/17 - 6/20 A win for Omni ChampionsGate Resort for $76/night - Reg $139/night
6/24 - 6/29 A win for Omni ChampionsGate Resort for $75/night - Reg $99/night

Lake Buena Vista - Downtown Disney Zone:
6/9 - 6/23 A win for Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort for $74/night - Reg $159/night

These were the only ones I saw reported so far but this board is updated constantly with wins so you might want to keep an eye on it. Plus all these wins are for Resorts so you could probably even get a lower star level hotel for much cheaper.

I would definitely go for some type of rental property - either a house, condo or timeshare. Check vrbo.com and skyauction.com. You should be able to get a 2-bedroom place for well under $100/night. Yes, you could get some cheap motel for less but the property rental will give you a full kitchen, which lets you save money on food, a washer/dryer usually and lots of other amenities along with way more space.

you can also take your chances and bid at ebay... dh and I got one for 200.00 for a week during thanksgiving (Liki Tike).... and than 250.00 in August... (Silver Lake) both 1 bedroom but you can get 2 bedroom...

Also... check out condodirect...you got to do a 7 night than a 1 night ... you can get something good...
