Staying off-site arrival time?

We always like to arrive before park opening. We will be visiting IOA/Universal over a 3 day period beginning on Tues Aug 21. I'm hoping it won't be too busy then. The parks don't open 'til 9:00am but it has been my experience that they sometimes open before the advertised time. Has that been happening recently at either or both parks? If so, how much earlier? Thanks

onsite hotel guests will be let in at 8:00 when the official park opening time is 9:00.

there might be times that the general public could be let in 8:55 or so.

it can vary depending on the day you are there.


you should be in line around 8:30 so you are close to the gate for when it does open.

the last week of august should have lighter crowds when the park hours are cut back.
