It looks like we will be staying in Scottsdale next spring for a week. We have never seen the Grand Canyon and feel like we should try to get there since who knows when we will be in AZ again. Is it even doable? How far a drive is it? How many days would we need at a minimum. We will have dc, ages 9, 7, 3 and 2. I could possibly leave the littlest ones back in Scottsdale with my parents. How best to see/experience with the older kids? Are there hikes or excursions geared to families? Thanks in advance for any info.

I would recommend the Grand Canyon Railroad. The train takes you right in and then you have 3-4 hours to tour and have lunch, then back to the train depot. It probably could be done in one day, might be more enjoyable to have an overnight.

It's roughly a 2.5 hour ride to Williams where the train depot is. I think it's 3.5 hours from Scottsdale to the Grand Canyon.
