Staying in Palm Desert- where to go from there?

Hi! MY Dh has a conference in Palm Desert in March. I'll be tagging along, but need some day trips I can do alone. Any ideas? I think DL is only a couple of hours away, so I can do that, but what else? Thanks

Palm Springs has the Aerial Tram that takes you up a big mountain. The tram ride itself is really neat because it turns as you go up so you get a 360 degree view of the area. Once you're at the top there are hiking trails and I think there were a few exhibits and a movie about the area. There is also a restaurant. In march I'm willing to bet there will be snow up there too. We went one year in May and were surprised to see snow in Palm Springs! It was still cold in May too so I'm sure you would need a coat in March.

There's also the outlet stores in Cabazon and a place called Hadley's right next to the stores where you can get fruit and nuts. It's more interesting than it sounds if you like to find different types of snacks. They are known for their dates.

There is also the Living Desert Zoo which i believe is in Palm Desert. We went there with DS and he loved the model train but the animals aren't as interesting as the ones you would find at a "real" zoo. It was fun but not sure if it's something I would go do by myself unless you really like that sort of thing.

Oak Glen is a nice little town further west of Palm Desert that has lots of apple orchards. It won't be apple season in March but some of the stores are open year round.

If you like shopping Ontario Mills is a huge shopping area that is supposed to get more visitors per year than Disneyland. It isn't that close to Palm Desert but close enough for a day trip if you were interested in that.

That's all I can think of right now that would be somewhat close by. Hope that helps!
