Staying in a Disney Hotel night before

We are considering coming to Disney a day before so we can get the most out of our first park day. We are traveling 14 hours from PA..
My mom says that usually if you call them when you're on your way they usually will give you a pretty good deal (aka a few dollars less than on the website) my mom hasn't been to Disney in like 7 years so I'm sure a lot has changed.. but does this have any truth? Right now ASM is $120 a night for the night before we check into POP. I'm trying to decide if I should book before I leave or on our way down. Thanks for any insight!

there was a place in Ocala that allowed you a cheaper rate - it got closed (and last minute discounts) a few years ago.

you can do an airport hotel - it provides transportation back and forth to the airport - and still go with DME.

just remember overnight bag - that you kept with you
