Hi Everyone,
Just returned from 8 wonderful days in the World, and stayed for the first time in a cabin at Fort Wilderness. At the recommendation of friends and other DISers we didn't rent a car, and relied on WDW transportation for all of our travel needs. This was the one mistake that really put a damper on our vacation.

The internal bus loop at FW was very unreliable. Sometimes the wait was 15 minutes, most days it was 30-40 minutes. We figured out later in our week that when buses arrived at the Settlement and Outpost Depot that most drivers would not change the marquee on their bus and therefore we did not board a bus that may have been going where we needed to go.

Wait time for buses at the parks to the resort were normally 40 minutes. It was easily a 1- 1 1/2 hour process to go from our cabin to anywhere else in WDW.

We found the drivers working on the internal bus loop to be surly and nasty to deal with.....I know they rotate out of the loop during the course of their shift, and it seemed like the drivers on the internal loop were none to happy to have pulled that "tour of duty."

We visit WDW every year, and have always been very strong supporters of the WDW transportation system. However, after this trip, we'll reconsider the benefit of actually staying on property next time. For us the benefit of staying on property was the ease of transportation and not needing to rent a car for the week.

Anyways, just my observations on the Ft. Wilderness Transportation system and general opinions about our experience with the cast members in purple pants. I'd strongly suggest anyone travelling to FW to rent a car.

Hi Boo'sMom,
Sorry I didn't see your post before your trip, as I would definitely have recommended a rental car. We stayed at FW for a week last year and we had both a rental car and a golf cart (for internal transportation). I've read posts from people who have had no problems with the FW transportation system, but we didn't want to take any chances. Hope your next trip goes better!
:D
