Staying for a month- Cheap suggestions?

Hello everyone,

My friend and I are planning to stay in Orlando for a month (from Jun 1st-Jun 30th approx.) Are there any sites that might direct us to cheap hotel rates or even an apartment for low prices? We'll be getting a rental car, so traveling won't be a problem for us.

are some of the cheapest. would call both and see if they have long term discount rates - know that motel 6 did - not sure now.

www.VRBO -- go there and find a condo, townhouse or small home. Look for locations in Lake Buena Vista, Kissimmee, ect (I do not know the other close locations but you can look on a map and probably figure it out or someone here will help)

Eat breakfast and Supper at home. = Money saved

Some people have claimed $70 per night for a house. I have found about a hundred per night -- if you rent for a week; but if you rent for a month you should be able to negotiate a much better rate.

I always ask for the "total" price. That way I can compare apples to apples. Some places, including hotels, tax at 13%, that is a huge amount. Some places charge a parking fee or resort fee.

Thank you for the suggestions! I will look into the options! I found some for $30ish, but of course they are not top-quality hotel. We're there mainly for resting and will most likely be out doing activities around the Orlando area.

I would go on Skyauction and get the Home Away from Home Certificates for $ 299 a week. That way you will be in a nice place with a kitchen and in a resort rather than just a motel. I checked and there are resorts in the area available with the certificate (worldgate, etc.) for all of June. Good luck.

Extended Stay America or Extended Stay Deluxe on Westwood blvd - I have stayed at both and they have special monthly rates as well as weekly rates. Near Seaworld but a short drive to Disney as well. Monthly rate at ESA can be as little as $35/night for a queen studio.

Just wanted to clarify - ALL places charge the 13% tax, it is the law. So even though they might not list it (which actually last I checked it was required by law to be listed as an item) you are paying it.

I was looking at Extended Stay and that seems to be the best option right now since they have a lot of the amenities-- including a stove! We just need a clean place to sleep and shower, not motels full of bugs, although it's Florida.

I will keep searching and all these ideas are fantastic! Really appreciate the amount of feedbacks.

Thanks for the suggestion on Westwood Blvd! The reviews are great! We have found a place from 6/15-6/30 for $500 (after a $100 savings), that works out to $250 a week. I assume the tax rate is 13%?

Now, we just have to find a place from 6/1-6/15.

I am also looking for somewhere cheap to stay. Just need a bed, simple kitchen items and some hot water. Shoot, even the bed is optional at this point. Everything is SO expensive! I am looking at being down there from ASAP to mid to late may so that's going to be REALLY expensive. Yikes. Wonder if they give "broke college student" discounts?
I keep hoping some long lost snowbird will come and offer to rent their condo/apartment or something. So far, I've had no such luck. ::sigh::

you have to wait until it gets at least warm in the north. besides even then they can rent to people going to WDW.

You have to email people on VRBO to get good prices, unless they happen to list the monthly price in the listing. Most owners (not all) will discount your stay by quite a bit when you stay for a month at a time. You won't get the super-deep discounts you'd get in the off-season when you go in June, though.

We like to go to WDW for a month or more at a time because my DH works from home and can work from anywhere. We homeschool and school through the summer so that we can take long breaks in the fall when the weather is nice and vacation prices are lower. At that time of year, we can wait until about a month before we leave and find people who still have all those weeks open and are desperate to have someone stay in their house. Since most houses won't be open for 4 weeks at at time in June, the owners won't be as desperate.

I had been looking at the Extended Stay on Westwood but then I found the Studio 6 and it actually looks like it might be nicer, plus it's closer to shopping locations and Disney. Neither one look all that luxurious but for the price (about $35 a night) it might be worth it. Still is going to cost me a fortune ($35x30days/month= at least $1050! and I want to stay 2 months! Yipes!) This better help me as well as Im hoping cus I will definitely not be able to afford healthcare afterwards..!

it is an upgraded Motel 6

you can find a cheap microwave and cheap refrigerator at walmart or target - found a cheap refrigerator at Lowe's for $29 and it is much nicer than the ones at Disney (it was an end of line sale)

the motel 6 had no problem with me keeping them in the room.

that say there is a Perkins within walking distance of the one that I recommended. Perkins is a pretty cheap place to eat.

if you have a car you can find cheap places to eat close by.

motel 6 has a discount rate for longer stays - so pretty the one you are looking at does too.

the website will price it one way - call the resort and ask for their prices.

We're 99% sure that we're staying in Extended Stay at Westwood. For 1 month, it will be $34.99 a night, plus there is also a code to shave $200 off if we stay over 31 days or $100 if we stay 15-30 days. The total comes out to $885ish pre-tax. With tax, it'll just be under $1000 (assuming a tax of 13%)?

Have you looked at Craigslist for Temporary/Sublets? With it being the summer, a lot of UCF students rent out their apartments/townhouses. You will not have to pay tax and the rent is under $600 for most.

Some people want an all summer lease, but others are happy with a 30-day lease.

Also, I have seen some of the "clients" at long term stay hotels and lets just say some look liked they were paid by the hour... I know Craigslist is a leap of faith as well, but with it being summer, you are more likely to find a college student who just wants to get some money back on a lease they are not going to be able to use.

Have a great stay (wherever you stay but if you stay at ESA Westwood Blvd)!! One of the things I loved about it there are the staff (great management Katie Lynn, Meribel, Carolyn off the top of my head)- they were really great - I was there for a few months plus the location was a positive for me quiet, accessible and about a 10 minute walk to the gates of Seaworld, a short bus to WDW, near to shopping at the outlets and not too far from the Publix on Vineland Rd. or other amenities on International Drive. Overall very good value for a longer term stay.
