:woohoo:

We are very excited to be going to Disney for the 5th time but this is our first time onsite, and first time since 2001 so we are really looking forward to it.

We are staying at CBR and were wondering which building we should request? Or should we just take our chances? I can't imagine that any of the buildings would be awful, but is one better than the others. We are me, DW, DS11 and DS15. I was told I couldn't guarantee a non smoking room but that 99% of the rooms are non smoking. Any advice regardin CBR would be greatly appreciated. Also since we aren't renting a car, any advice on restaurants? Are there any shouldn't miss places to eat.

is Martinique(Spellling sorry). It was near enough to the main pool and food court on one side and a quiet pool on the other side. It was quiet and close to everything. I believe that this is one of the preferred room sites. I enjoyed our stay here.

Six of CBR's 33 buildings are what's called "preferred location," meaning they are the closest to Old Port Royale, the hub for the main pool, food court, etc.

Preferred location rooms cost an extra $15-$26 per night and must be reserved. Sure, you could simply request preferred location, but keep in mind that everyone who has preferred location RESERVED is in line ahead of you.

Preferred location buildings are all of Trinidad North (31-32-33) and half of Martinique (24-25-26). Many people who don't pay for preferred location seem to choose Jamaica or Aruba, which are just across the lake from (and connected by a bridge to) OPR. Next closest to OPR would be the non-preferred location buildings of Martinique (21-22-23), followed by Barbados, and coming in as the farthest from OPR is Trinidad South. It is approximately a half-mile walk from Trinidad South to OPR.

Each village has its own bus stop and beach, so you'll never be far from those.

And as far as smoking ... only one of CBR's 33 buildings is smoking optional (Aruba 51). So call it a 96.66666% chance of getting a non-smoking room.:rotfl:

Ditto to everything already posted -- you will LOVE CBR! My DS14 and DS11 loved it in 2005, and it was even better this year (now DS16 and DS13)! Lots for them to do at CBR, and they'll love the food court at Old Port Royale! Have a great time!

CBR is a beautiful resort. You will enjoy your stay there. You might want to read the CBR FAQ listed below. The first post contains lots of information about the resort.

I also have lots of pictures and the resort map on my web site listed below.

We like to stay in the Jamaica section. This is a short walk over the bridge to the main pool and food court. We love the beautiful tropical themeing of CBR and the white sandy, beaches with ducks. We are going July 11 through the 18th. This will be our 5th stay at CBR. Safety Mom's FAQ has a ton of information, and it helped me tremendously when we first went to Disney.

My family also only uses the bus service. The restaurants we are going to in July are as follows: Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom, House of Blues at DTD, Planet Hollywood at DTD, Le Cellier at Epcot, Sci Fi at MGM, and Crystal Palace breakfast buffet with Winnie the Pooh at Magic Kingdom.
We have always had great bus service at CBR.

I think your boys would love Sci-Fi. Where else can you eat in a car and watch a drive-in? Great burgers and shakes. Have a wonderful time.

Jamaica is a perfect location without spending extra $ a night. You will love CBR!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

You're gonna love CBR!! If you don't want to pay for a preferred room location than I would highly suggest Jamaica 45, 46 or 44. Jamaica is located at the foot of the bridge leading over to Old Port Royale.

Oh, Safetymom has great pics of CBR, but most importantly the map of the resort. Definitely take a look!

Jamaica Mon !!

Short walk across the island to the main pool and market and close to bus.

Enjoyed our stay there immensly.

make sure to share your pretzels with the turtles under the bridge. DD's favorite activity!!

I would also vote for Jamaica or Aruba. It is a nice short walk over the island to Old Port Royale.

I want to "request " to be near the main buses that take you to the parks, I would rather not have to bus "around" the resort. Which buildings should I request???

Thanks everyone! Jamaica seems to be the consensus, (even tho I am not OP :) )
Wanted to try CBR in March...just booked standard, will roll the dice at check ..:) Just trying to soak up as much info/tips as I can get!

I think everybody will enjoy their stay at the CBR. We had been to WDW 10 times before we decided to splurge and stay onsite at the CBR. We instantly fell in love with the CBR. It's like getting a Disney vacation and tropical/beach vacation all rolled into one.

Jamaica is a great village to request without paying the extra money on a preferred location. We were in Jamaica Building 41, Room 4154. The upstairs, non-smoking room faces a beautiful courtyard. (I have pictures but am too computer illiterate to know how to post them so if anybody wants them, just private message me and I'll e-mail them to you.) We were less than a minute walk to the Jamaica quiet pool and beach, a 3 minute walk to the Jamaica bus stop and a 5 minute walk to the food court/main pool/marina/store, etc. Another plus for the village of Jamaica is the fact that you can see portions of the Epcot fireworks from the Jamaica beach.

Hockeydadof2boys:

I think just about everybody overlooked your restaurant question since they were so excited about the CBR (which they should be).

You guys should enjoy eating some of your meals at Old Port Royale. There's a wide variety of foods to choose from at the food court. We liked the Grab N Go station when we wanted something light.

We also thought that Shutters (also at the CBR) was good. Even our picky 9 year old found something he liked on the menu.

It doesn't take long for the bus service to take you to Downtown Disney. There, you will find oodles and oodles of places to eat. We have eaten at the House of Blues once but, since we are from Louisiana and eat Southern food all the time, we haven't eaten there again. The food was good though.

Your boys would probably enjoy eating at Planet Hollywood or Rainforest Cafe and they are at Downtown Disney as well. We have eaten just about everything at both of the restaurants and have found that you can't really go wrong with anything you order.

The burgers at Planet Hollywood are all great. The lasagna is super good too. All of the appetizers are yummy.

At Rainforest Cafe, you must order the Volcano dessert. It is three large (the size of a hand) hot brownies shaped like a volcano. Inside are three large scoops of vanilla ice cream. Drizzled all over are caramel and chocolate which are supposed to be the lava. They put a sparkler on top and when they bring it out and yell 'VOLCANO'.

You might also want to check out the Hoop Dee Doo Review. It is held at Fort Wilderness. Just take a bus to the Magic Kingdom and hop on the ferry to the Fort Wilderness resort. We allotted ourselves an hour travel time and got there on time. The songs are silly, the jokes are corny and the entertainers overact but it's really good. The food is great too. The meal is served family style and includes bbq ribs, fried chicken, corn on the cob, salad, baked beans, rolls and strawberry shortcake.

After the Hoop Dee Doo Review, you might want to walk around the Fort Wilderness grounds. They have carriage rides and the store sells some unique souveniers.

At the Magic Kingdom, we always eat at the Crystal Palace for a table service meal. It is a buffet so everybody will find something they like. Pecos Bills is good for counter service.

At Epcot, we never miss Garden Grill and LeCellier (if you can get in). Counter service just depends on where we are at the time. The different countries have great counter service meals.

At MGM Studios, Sci-Fi is our favorite. Great atmosphere and great food. Everything on the menu is good. For counter service, we like Toy Story Pizza Planet or Backlot Express. Toy Story Pizza Planet has arcade games that your boys would probably enjoy.

At Animal Kingdom there are no table service restaurants yet. Flame Tree BBQ is really, really good and Pizzafari runs a close second.

Hope this helps you guys out. I'm just countin' down the days until I'm lazing around in a Jamaica beach hammock (44 days!) Lisa

I want to "request " to be near the main buses that take you to the parks, I would rather not have to bus "around" the resort. Which buildings should I request???
I know what you're asking, but there's no such thing.

When you say "main buses," I'm wondering if you think there is a central bus stop where park buses leave from, and other internal buses feed people to that area. Doesn't work that way.

CBR has 7 bus stops. Buses heading to/from the parks start at one of two villages, roughly across the complex from each other. This means that you can never guarantee yourself to be the last stop on a route.

The other thing to consider is that if you want to be able to sit on a bus (as opposed to stand) then you actually WANT to be picked up early and then ride the loop around. If you're the last to board at a moderately busy time (such as mornings, and just before dinner time), chances are you won't get a seat. There's also the chance that the bus will be filled to capacity and won't be able to stop for you at all.

It takes no more than 5 minutes to make the whole loop around, including making each stop. It's really no big deal, and, like I said, there's no reliable way to avoid it.

Here's a list of my kids favorite places to eat:

50's Prime Time Cafe at MGM
Crystal Palace, Castle and Cosmic Ray's at MK
Marakesh, Coral Reef, Rose n Crown Pub at Epcot...trying Le Cellier this summer
Tusker House at AK
Trail's End Buffet at Ft. Wilderness campground

The food court is wonderful at CBR with a lot of different things to choose from.

My husband and I had a mouth watering meal at California Grill!

Boma's at AK Lodge is one of our favorite meals as well.

We stayed at Jamaica 43 in March. EXCELLENT.

Food...Tony's at the Magic Kingdom was superb. Abdelkadar was our waiter and we enjoyed his service so much, we scheduled 2 days later for dinner.

Also, Rainforest Cafe at the AK. Large portions, great price.
