Staying at WL so looking at WCC..

I cannot decide if we should make an ADR there..

A little bit of background.. we live in Kansas City.. There is no better BBQ than right here!

So, it seems the food might be quite a bit like here at home, which we can get whenever we want...

It sounds like my mind is made up, but really, it isn't! Would we get to WL and think "That place really looks like fun"? Will our kids possibly feel like we are missing out if we don't go there?

Is their breakfast good? Would that maybe be a good idea to get the atmosphere? Breakfast is breakfast and (VERY SADLY) CP will be refurbished and thus not open through our stay so we gotta eat somewhere, or is chef Mickey's so much better than WCC for breakfast that we should do that? I am not too concerned about character interaction really.

we have not eaten at WCC since the menu changed. before, we enjoyed the breakfast there; we have ADRs there for december. chef mickey is a buffet w/characters. how old are your children?

We have been to Chef Mickey's before, and it was fine but we don't have to have the characters..

The kids are 11 and 7 and we plan on LTT which will have characters when CP is closed.

Breakfast is pretty good there but if you are going for the "entertainment" the best time is at dinner.

We're big fans of Wilderness lodge, and just returned Monday night from our 43 WDW vacation. We're not foodies, never do the dining plan but like to try places we've never been if a meal on their menu appeals to us. We're breakfast people, and Trails End at FW, best breakfast buffet on property and no characters. This past trip we did try WCC, now I'm not cheap but I'm not going to pay stupid prices for mediocre meals and the wife had the meat loaf which I had a taste, very good, but at 18.99, come on, it's meat loaf. She enjoyed it, I had the endless milkshakes, nothing else on the menu appealed to me or my wallet, made her happy though. Most of Disney's dinners are way over priced so we tend to stick to CS, either at different resorts or parks, I can find meals that are reasonable for what they serve. I wouldn't pay 20 bucks at home for meatloaf or 12 bucks for a normal breakfast so I don't blow my cash at Disney for the atmosphere during meals. The restaurant is entertaining, especially for the young folk, but not a place for a quiet conversation, very very noisy atmosphere but that's what it's touted for.

I'm from Oklahoma...we have our share of great BBQ places around here....And the food at Whispering Canyon is pretty good. No, it's not award-winning BBQ, but it is pretty good

That being said......the food is not the MAIN draw at Whispering Canyon. It is the entire experience that makes it what it is.

We just ate there for the 1st time on Thursday. It is VERY NOISY!! The was was not that good...very overpriced. We were on the dining plan which we got for free...that being said I would never have paid $110 for this meal. You are just paying for the atmosphere & the antics for the kids. We did have a great waiter and my kids loved the bottomless milkshakes...but I don't know if I would go back. Had much better food (ribs/chicken) at Hoop Dee Doo the next night!!!

But you also pay over $50 a person at Hoop-Dee-Do Revue as well if not on the dining plan.

As far as WCC goes, I've read as many negative reviews on this Board as positive ones.

I'm a DVC owner at VWL, we always have at least one meal there, usually breakfast. I will say I am envious of the diners there at dinner time. It's a loud fun time that I believe your kids will love, especially at their ages.

Is it over priced as Pepe mentioned? Sure, but what meal at WDW isn't? I think I spent over $18 for my meatloaf dinner at 50's Primetime Cafe. You aren't paying for atmosphere as much as the food.

My suggestion would be to give it a try. You may hate it and never go back, or you may find a place that suits your family, and end up going back for years.

IMHO, the bbq doesn't compare. Good friends of our are avid KC Chiefs fans and just held their party with some oooohhh so yummy KC ribs. WCC just doesn't compare.


As for their breakfast--it is just too fried and fatty for my taste. I'm more of a simple breakfast eater with the occasional piece of bacon or sausage with an occasional pancake type of gal.


WCC, IMO is more of an atmosphere choice versus a food choice. If you want to try the atmosphere, give it a go. If you are looking at the food, I'd pick elsewhere.

yeah...if you're a KC BBQ eater WCC is probably a cut below. But the antics are fun for your kids...especially if they aren't too shy. If your kids are more reserved and are afraid of being embarressed I would pick somewhere else.

Breakfast is great, loved it, so did DH. I'm from the South and they have the best Sausage Gravy Biscuits, they are to die for. Then they have the standards bacon, suasage, southern syle hash browns, scrambled eggs and mickey waffles for $14.99. All you can eat, not bad for Disney prices. We stayed there in Oct. and never did get to eat dinner there, we were always at the parks at dinner time, sorry I can't help on that end.

It was my least favorite meal.
The skillet is all you can eat, but the meat was fatty and gristly. You feel bad asking for more when there is tons there, but we had 3 chicken thighs or wings (I only buy boneless skinless breasts), fatty pork, and gristly slimy brisket. The mashed potatoes were cold and the corn was too. I filled up on salad and the bottomless shakes. Would have been really mad to pay $25.99 for salad if not on free dining.
If I ever went there again, I would insist on better meat and not be so easy. I guess if we don't complain, they will keep on serving junk.
I know Disney food is not great, but this was way bad.

We stayed at the WL in Aug...make sure you get the pecan cinnamon buns from Roaring Forks!

Anyway...we were supposed to do breakfast at WCC (wish we did) but cancelled it because DH was dying for BBQ...it was horrible. No fun, no games, no ketchup gag or large drinking glasses, our server Doc was a dull dud and the food was terrible...no way would I go back...the cornbread was great and the SW chicken chowder was very good until I got a humongous bone in my mouth.....
