Staying at Riverside : Show me pics, get me excited!!

Does anyone know if there are any new activities going on at POR? I saw earlier someone posted saying they had movies or something? Just curious whats going on over there from the last time I left

Heard this also on another thread. Possibly at Oak Manor? Also that they have the campfire thing with smores kits available.

This is an awesome thread, as we will have to go here now (which I am totally psyched about) instead of BC due to finances.
I am on page 10 only so forgive me if this has been addressed.
Can anyone equate the worst walk here to the main building/pool here to anywhere at CBR or CSR (resorts I know). For example, if we do not get a preferred and end up the farthest away, is it as bad as walking from the Ranchos at CSR to Pepper Market, or is it more like Barbados to OPR at CBR. Just trying to get a feel for what I want to do here. Thanks.

Oh, I've been dying to know this too! I'm familiar with the distances at CBR and CSR and would like a comparison to POR.

Catching up with what I posted on a different thread. Hope you all enjoy!

We just got back yesterday, and even though we did not go to either the movie or to the campfire - both activities were going on when we were there. The movie was playing at building 90 and I think the campfire was right behind the main pool. There were many activities going on at the pool this time too, and I don't remember this going on in the past. The atmosphere was very fun!

When Disney first revealed October's free dining, we booked POFQ because we had never stayed there and we wanted a renovated room. But, since free dining didn't kick in until October 23rd, we had to make two reservations - a one-night room only for the 22nd, and the remainder with free dining from 23rd-30th.

Now, thanks to the Disboards, I just found out that Disney changed the free dining dates from Oct 23 to Oct 22, so I called to add the 22nd to my existing reservation and cancel my room-only reservation. However, the free dining on the 22nd wasn't available at POFQ, but it was at POR. So we going back to POR instead, with free dining the entire week!!!

Now I need to request a renovated room in either Acadian House or Magnolia Terrace, and we will have the perfect vacation booked. But if we don't get a renovated room, who cares? POR is our favorite resort!!

Boy this sure doesn't look like where I live! This will be quite a change of senery for me! I am so looking forward to being there in 25 days!!!! I've never been to Riverside so I've really been enjoying this thread! It looks very peaceful and secluded! Thanks for all the info!

Sorry if this has been answered somewhere...but I am wondering...is there a way of knowing where our room in POR will be before we get there??? If we call and request a particular room, what are the chances of us getting it?? What rooms have been renovated already? We're going Dec. 30-Jan.6. Thanks in advance!!!! :)

Rooms are not assigned until you are standing at check-in and the room is available for occupancy.

If you request a particular room, they won't know why you have requested it and will over look it. Also, someone may still be in that room and not checking out that day.

It is not like a cruise line where you are all arriving and leaving the same day.

You can check out the schedule of the refurbs and updated information on the POR thread on the resorts board, or on portorleans.org.

Here are a few pictures I snapped with my camera phone... not great quality

kimmer1850....AWESOME pics!! Was this in the winter? There is something about Disney in the wintertime that everything looks so crisp. Love it! Your pic of the Sassagoula River is stunning! :thumbsup2

Hey Disneyfreak616... Thanks!! These were taken in early March of this year. I woke up about 8:00 a.m. and grabbed my camera. Thanks again for the kind words.
