staying at poly-can't get dining plan?!?

Ok, we booked through a travel agent a room at the poly with a group discounted rate. We were planning on doing MYW with dining and the agent emailed me today and said we could not, because we don't have a "package." What? I thought you just needed to stay on site in the park to get the dining plan? What package options are they referring to? We are already getting the magical express and room, what else do they want?? HELP!!!!!

When you book a room-only reservation, it is just that - room only. The MYW with Dining is part of a package plan, as it consists of resort accomodations and theme park tickets, plus the dining.

Group discounted rates are a room-only discount, and not eligible for the MYW dining plan.

What a lot of people do, if they have annual passes, is purchase the park tickets and use it one day and save the rest (make sure you make them non-expiring) for another trip.

If you want the dining plan, you have to get a package of room and tickets (at least one day). The only discounts you can get on packages are special package specific discounts and AAA (but only through a AAA travel agent). All room-only discounts, like your group discount or AP discount or FL resident discount, etc., cannot used on a package. So you have a choice - your discount or dining plan.

that really stinks! We are doing a land/sea in Jan. and you can't add the dining to that either?! I don't think that makes any sense.

Not sure how the $$$ works out but you can book them out separately and get the MYW with dining on the land portion. The dining package must be added onto a reservation with room and at least a 1 day pass to the parks.

Also, if you are already booked for a room only and want the dining you could purchase a 1 day pass to the parks (thus making your reservation a package)and get the dining added on. If you get a nonexpiring pass you could use them at a later visit if you already have your passes for this visit. You should still be able to apply a discount to the room portion of your package.

Just a warning,

If you do decide to cancel your room only booking and re-book a package just to get the dining make sure you do a careful cost analysis. The rooms that are included in the package deals are rack rate so eventhough you are getting a "deal" with meals, often times you are paying more for the room.

It really depends what works best for you.

By the way, the Magical Express is free, if you sign up for it, that does not mean you have a package. Anyone staying at the Disney resorts, having either a room only booked or a package can use Magical Express.
