Staying at one deluxe but eating at another

I wonder if it's strange to stay at one deluxe if it's cheaper and in the same park area that you're aiming for but not take advantage of its restaurants.

For me, I have the Contemporary in the back of my mind in case there is a more significant discount there than at the Poly for my September dates. I'd still like to keep my Poly ADRs (I had planned on that if I stayed at a Value resort). But if you stayed at the Contemporary, would you make it a point to eat at its restaurants? I've been to California Grill (lovely but out of my price range) and Chef Mickey's (not interested).

We eat at the restaurants we like, regardless of where we are staying.

I am curious about the Wave and Contempo Cafe - that's why I wondered if I end up at the Contemporary if I should really give them a shot. But I think I might just have my heart set on Kona (dinner and breakfast). So I'll likely stick with your idea. Just go where I wish. :)

We’ve stayed at Bay Lake Tower a couple of times. We’ve eaten at 1900 Park Fare (breakfast and dinner), ‘Ohana (breakfast and dinner), and Kona. We have never eaten at The Wave, California Grill, or Chef Mickey’s. We’ve talked about trying them before, but are less interested in the Contemporary restaurants than the ones at the other monorail resorts.

We eat all over the place. We are at WL next trip, we have 1 meal planned there at Artist Point. We will prob eat at new Bar & Grill a time or 2. We do for convenience sake like to have dinner in the area we’re staying. So if staying in MK resort area we’ll have most ADRs around those resorts.
When we stayed in Epcot resort area we had most dinners in that area. Not necessarily at same resort we’re staying at. Usually will have 1 or 2 at resort. Staying at YC we ate at Captains Grill and another meal at Cape May at BC. And several meals on the Boardwalk.

We tried the Wave when we stayed at the Contemporary years ago and enjoyed it. It’s not one I would go out of my way to do again, but if it were convenient, I would. We’re looking forward to dining there again when we’re staying Contemporary this summer.

Enjoy!

We always have a meal at The Polynesian even if we aren’t staying there. We love Kona Cafe!

We also like to have a meal at The Grand Floridian Cafe regardless of where we are staying.

The Wave is on my list of places to try someday, so if I were staying at The Contemporary, I would probably try it.

I've never let where I'm staying impact which restaurants I eat at. To the OP's followup point though, the Wave is definitely a place you should try. Great breakfast and lunch/dinner.
